I'm going to see U2 in November. Fookin' excited.

My least favorite U2 member is a the Dino, followed shortly by Dennis, Burl and Flumm. No apologies, like the thread says.

No, you did backup vocals in the '80s. It counts.

I think Bean is right.

Even though his ipod is chock full of Good Charlotte, I think that "All that you can't leave behind" is an underrated album. "Beautiful Day" is just a song that has shown so bright that the others pale, but on their own they are pretty damn good.

"Kite" is one of the best songs they've ever written.

Atomic Bomb is better than All that You Can't Leve Behind, but they're both damn fine.

No it's not.

It's full of jam bands, but on his 10,000 song player he could only fit 10 songs...10 songs of the Dead "jamming out".

<shudder>.

i was on the way to work this morning, and one of our local radio stations that is tolerable (there are about 3) played a rare live U2 track. it was a cover of the Beatles "Helter Skelter". i love the beatles, and the white album is their second best imo, so i was keen to hear just how much justice was done. i was a little pissed, that it seemed bono didnt even bother to learn the correct lyrics to the song. he sang shit like "you may know love but you aint no dancer" and more. i was willing to give mr. vox the benefit of the doubt, and believe that maybe, just maybe he deliberatley changed the lyrics for a justifiable purpose. but the longer i listened, i decided that he just didnt know the correct lyrics. and then it sounded like the edge fudged the big scale down. you know "heltah skeltah na na na na na na na heltah skeltah na na na na na na na" . which is weak, because thats one of the easiest riffs in the world to play. and to top it off, when he sang it, it sounded like he was trying to sing it like john lennon. which also kind of bugged me, because it was paul' song. maybe im a douche, but this event merely increased my hatred for every member of U2, and i knew then, that this would be the appropriate place to let it be known.

Mmm, to what degree of weirdness is it, that the first time I read this post, I'm sort of lazily picking away at my gee-tar, trying to learn Blackbird from the white album?

Enough for me to do this?

blackbird flyyyyyy
blackbird flyyyyyyy
into the light of the dark black night

we (me & my friends) used to listen to that record until our ears bled. we always used to laugh at that chirping bird, because we thought it was totally cheesy and over the top, and just plain funny. and then one time we were smoking (bud) with my friends mom, and listening to the white album, and blackbird comes on, and his mom starts gushing over how much she loves that fuckin bird. we totally paopwlash-ed. love that song, and that record.
btw flumm, im catching shit from my gf from ignoring her and a studly, studly bowl so i can bond with you. damn this power the zone and its minions have over me. shit, she just threw my hulk hands at me. im out.

roflmao man

Go have some fun with your lady friend.

*starts chirping*

Flyyyy brockbird flyyy..

EDIT: Actually brock, have you heard Jenny Wren from the latest McCartney record? It's not Blackbird, but I it's in a simmilar picking style, and it has a beautiful maudlin melody. It has a slightly distracting soft woodwind thing going on in parts of it, but it still worth a listen. I'd put it on an idigit link if it was up and running, but I don't doubt you'll your ways and means to check it out....

bono was in ottawa (canada's capital) a couple of weeks ago SCOLDING our prime minister for not giving enough to foreign aid.

What really sucked about it was that our fragile minority government was just about to fall (which it did) and Bono came off as if he was working for the opposition (the far right).

Bono has the worst timing ever. He should have just come and sang his songs, and come back after the election.

Doesn't matter anyway, cuz the douche just gets in his private jet and flies to the next country to scold their leader.

It's Paul Martin dude, are we really gonna shed tears? In any case, the Libs are leading the polls, and they have major union support, so I think this time they'll end up with a majority government. Shit, this reminds me. I should register to vote or something.

it must crush bono's soul to realise that he has accomplished pretty much nothing in terms of actually achieveing significant change to the situation in africa. and by the way, since when does someone get to meet with and discuss significant (not to mention complex) problems with world leaders cause they're a fucking celebrity and were born in a warzone and have purple fuckin glasses? i mean, good on him, but just get fuckin realistic, seriously. "in the name of love" does not consitute a change to the global economic structure.
