Avalanches! New album!

Postby stereosforgeeks on Tue Jan 30, 2007 4:37 pm

Pitchforkmedia.com via Avalanches Forum wrote:"abracadabra!

"happy new year yall. we've made a heap of mixes and stuff available while we finish the record. they wont give you a hint of the new albums magical sound unfortunately, but they will keep you pilgrims well nourished until the next harvest.

"its a really thrilling time for us right now as this record comes together, its so fuckin party you will die, much more hip hop than you might expect, and while there is still no accurate estimated time of arrival, were sure you're gonna love it when it arrives.

"much of last year was spent cutting up the spoken word/instructional records we need to tell the albums musical story, and we have some 40 odd songs we're narrowing down and finishing. so its real, it exists, and you know we wouldn't be serving anything up unless it was gonna give you that same special feeling that since has. funnily enough its ended up sounding like the next logical step to since, we just had to go around in a big circle to get back to where we belong.

"and one day when you least expect it you'll wake up and the sample fairy will have left it under your pillow.

"so big up to clint for all his work in making the downloads available for everyone to enjoy, and have a great oh seven."

the current Avalanches site for teasers, downloads and remixes

I say this should be the place for all related Avalanches paraphenalia - unless we've had a thread for them before.

Nope no avalanches topic. So come one come all and talk about the band that should have started indie kids dancing.

I don't think they were that well known here in the US. Well reviewed, but not big.

Love the Avalances, Since I Left You is one of my favourite Albums of the last decade and the title track was my song of that summer, lots of memories.

This album can't come soon enough.

I realised the album and their tours made a big impression in the UK, but me neither. If you can ever get your hands on their early EP 'El Producto', I recommend it to the MAX. JL, you have suceeded in making your AV even creepier.

I dont have much perspective on the prospect of this album and it's potential greatness - can it possibly live up to my hype?

There's a story regarding the new album on Pitchfork

Check this Stereo - I got a red vinyl single of Rock City/Thank You Caroline

-quite different version of Rock City than appears on their first ep, before they got sigened, released on a Melbourne Indie (can't remember off-hand)

the cover was slightly chewed by my old flatmate's cat - but I think it was their first release - It's a prize possession of mine.

pretty sure most of ya'll have dl'd this from P-Fork already, but if you haven't...

Ray of Zdarlight

not blown away, but I dig it. Not hearing the supposedly more hip-hop elements the new album is supposed to contain, but for an uptempo fluffy disco track, it works well enough.

Go HERE, dl Brains (teazr)- it's been available for streaming from the Avalanches site for a while, but would never play properly for me. Thanks to stereogum it's the closest thing you'll get to a 20 minute slice of an Avalanches (v.2.0) gig... unless, like me, you have the chance to be in their home town of Melbourne soon, to attend their frequent, snazzy, 'secret' live shows.

edit: actually it's more like a James De La Cruz warm-up set with lots of West Indian flavour.

For those who frequent theavalanches.com, THE AVALANCHES YOGA MIND MELD ZOMBIE RELAXATION TAPE (2006) is now available for free download. The excellent BRAINS edit is no longer there unless you hunt it down in the forums - SUX2BU if you didn't get it.

*cough?*

this, and a new Clipse "We Got it 4 Cheap" not coming out in 2007 rate as the year's (2007) biggest disappointments.
Personally, I'm an atheist in the voting booth and a theist in the movie theatre. I separate the morality of religion with the spirituality and solace of it. There is something boring about atheism.

Which? from back in February?

The Brains Mix and the infamous 'Gimix' version of 'Since I left you' are the best material on their site.
It's sad the most recent update on the site is to commemorate the tenth anniversary of their first single.

On the plus side, Dexter is playing a lot of shows lately...

Could it be that the 'Chinese Democracy' of good music is finally going to come? Are they teasing my music boner just one more time? Will it arrive, only to crush my balls? Recent movement at the station suggests... maybe (although I have a feeling it might an old myspace update)
