Don't.

EVER.

Do that.

Again!!!!!!!!

I always wondered what the hell I'd do if one of the Zoners actually DIED!!!!

Then I thought it had happened for real with OUR TonyWilson!!!!!

Then I read and looked - 1950-2007. Tony's not 57 years old, he's like only 46....... hang on a minute!!! Let's go and have a look!

TonyWilson's ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!

Man my heart stopped then.

This other Tony Wilson. I have NO idea who he is.

But I'm still sad kinda, though.

Damn, that's sad news - he was a difficult bugger, but without him the musical landscape in the UK during the 80's would have been a sparse place.

Time to listen to Power, Corruption and Lies.

Here's to the man. In the end he didn't understand you can't sell drinks if they cost twice as much as e -- unless you're charging for water. Good night, Mr. Wilson

Steve Coogans' portrayal of him in 24 Hour Party People is a very good place to start if you don't know why this death is worth a few moments of your time. It's funny, I'm going to see Control in a few weeks time, I'm sure he'll turn up in that, too.

Well, this is goodbye. I mean, we obviously have nothing in common. I'm a genius, you're all fucking wankers. You'll never see me again. You don't deserve to see me again.

Technically Gollum said that line, but I think it's as good an epitaph for the life and crimes of Mr. Tony Wilson as any. RIP it up and start it again, my man.

This is crappy news, and funnily enough I wanted to come on the zone as soon as I heard. When I was just hitting that age when music and late night TV are sources of fascination and important info, Wilson was a ubiquitous presence, both on his own shows like After Dark, and on other people's, like The Hitman and Her - he was this slightly snarky guy who you didn't always agree with, but managed to remain charming throughout. Then a few years later I realised the connection he had with some of mine and my brother's favourite bands of the time, and his stature grew even more for me.

Finally, he was immortalised, first by Steve Coogan on the big screen , and then by our very own TonyWilson on teh internets.

He didn't just help to provide the soundtrack to my adolescence, he helped define the culture in which it took place - and not many people ever get to say that. He was something different - RIP Tony

Well, Joy Divsion, New Order and Happy Mondays count among my favourite bands and we all know they owe their careers to him. A really sad day not only for UK music but for music in general.

Don't know a lot about him, but I do know that thanks to him we can enjoy a frakkload of good bands.

Plus the movie 24 hour party people is one helluva movie. Gonna pop it into my DVD player tonight to celebrate.

Sad news, only mitigated by the fact that OUR Tony Wilson is alive and well, bloody thank you.
But I had some anxious moments there - I can't speak to the late Mr. Wilson, but losing OUR TW would suck immeasurably more.

if it weren't for 24 hour party people, i wouldn't have known who he was, despite the fact that he helped put out some of my favourite music ever. bye tony and thanks for all the music.

goddamnit...

crappy U.S. world news reporting, I'm just finding out about this NOW, here in the Zone.

he'll put together some kickass shows in the afterlife...

RIP Mr Wilson - I met him about 4 years ago, when he opened an art gallery in Manchester.

And he was the main protagonist (played by Steve Coogan) in 24 Hour Party People - in my top twenty for greatest British films!!

Without him we would have had no Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays or Hacienda - lets hope there is another.
