Hilly Kristal - founder of the legendary CBGB - dies at 75

Sigur Ros is the greatest living band. Discuss.

Damn that sucks. He really helped promote a lot of bands when those scenes were starting.

only time I ever went was to see Pavement, of all bands, who had scheduled an impromptu, for the hard-core fans only gig there in the midst of their tour.

tiny, crustiest bathroom ever, reeked of pit-stains...

but a great place to see a gig regardless.
Personally, I'm an atheist in the voting booth and a theist in the movie theatre. I separate the morality of religion with the spirituality and solace of it. There is something boring about atheism.

My deepest respect to the man. His venue was famous even for those who never set foot in it. On the other side of the world. All the punk-rock-filth-goodness that played there just made it a place of mythical proportions.

Now they're both gone- the founder as well as the place.

As a hommage, I'm gonna listen to Blitzkrieg Bop right now.

I was really looking forward to trying to meet him when he opened up the new CBGBs here in vegas someday.

Anyone who helped bring The Ramones, Talking Heads, Television, Blondie and Patti Smith to prominence has my respect.
