Cheesy Ballads

Postby darkjedijaina on Tue Nov 27, 2007 8:09 pm

there's a link here which boasts the ultimate cheesy-ballad playlist

among the contenders:

Don't Stop Believing - Journey
Open Arms - Journey
Glory of Love - Peter Cetera
Could've Been - Tiffany
Lost in Your Eyes - Debbie Gibson
Somewhere in the Night - Barry Manilow
Somewhere Out There - Linda Rondstat and James Ingram

there's many more there, but what are some of yours?

Muskrat Susie, Muskrat Sam
Do the jitterbug out in muskrat land
And they shimmy
And Sammy's so skinny

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jingin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

Nibbling on bacon, chewin' on cheese
Sammy says to Susie "Honey, would you please be my missus?"
And she say yes
With her kisses

And now he's ticklin' her fancy
Rubbin' her toes
Muzzle to muzzle, now anything goes
As they wriggle, and Sue starts to giggle

Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you

Thank you, Richard Marx....

One of my deep dark secrets was that once, I really wanted Bryan Adams "Everything I Do" played at my wedding. I've grown out of it but my thirteen year old Renaissance Faire girl heart still kinda digs it... ;)

But I think Giant's "I'll see you in my dreams" belongs on any cheese list.
It belongs on the credits of some overblown 80's fantasy like Ladyhawke.

Oh... Sher-ray...

OOOOOOUR LOVE

(wait for it)

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLDS OOOOOOOOON!
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLDS OOOOOOOOON!

That might be the greatest song to come out of the 80s. Of course, I also am a big sucker for this big hit, comin atcha outta 1985, yeaaaah!!!!

I'll never find another girl like you
For happy endings it takes two
We're fire and ice, the dream won't come true

Sara! Sara! Storms are brewin' in your eyes!
Sara! Sara! No time is a good time for goodbyes!

Ahh, the songs of my youth.

Hmm...

Listen to the mandolin rain
Listen to the music on the lake
Oh, listen to my heart break
Every time she runs away

Listen to the banjo wind
A sad song, drifting low
Oh, listen to the tears roll
Down my face as she turns to go

Fuck, I have to go actually find my Bruce Hornsby CD when I get into my car to head home from work now.

I don't know if they're really all that cheesy, but I was in an '80s-themed nightclub the other day (as if there were any other kind) and I went bat-shit crazy when the DJ played three Billy Idol songs in a row! After dancing through Eyes Without a Face, Hot in the City and White Wedding I could barely breathe. It would probably have made more sense if they played Dancing With Myself though, seeing as how that's exactly what I was doing.

Dancing to Billy Idol is cool. And - actually- dancing alone to Billy Idol is even cooler! 8)

I also don't know how cheesy she is - but ocasionally I get this overwhelming need to listen to

"Breakfast In Bed" helps me through the day sometimes.

Youve been cryin
Your face is a mess
Come in baby
You can dry the tears on my dress
Shes hurt you again
I can tell
Oh, I know that look so well

Breakfast in bed
And a kiss or three
You dont have to say you love me

*nose quivers, eyes well up*

But those aren't ballads, are they? I've only heard White Wedding from that list, though.

A wrong ballad song by the typically right singer, can be chronically cheesey, but only the cruelest, most miserly of souls could condemn Dusty, I would say.

Plus, there's the whole Retroactive cool thing of having her the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, so she's mostly safe, I think...

Perhaps more cholestorl-y than cheesey, but I can't help but love...

I actually thought that was just a different version of Aretha Franklin's Son of a Preacher Man used in Pulp Fiction until I bought the soundtrack.

Who'd have figured that a white woman from Hampstead Heath could ever have been born with a voice like that?

Ain't nothin'. NOTHIN' cheezier than this:

All I Need

I actually had a girl in high school give the lyrics of this song to me in note form...

Needless to say, I ended up giving her "just a little more time" than she had intended.

That reminds me of the mix tapes we'd play at house parties when at high-school (very early high school - none of that "just a little more" going on yet)- and then sit around with sweating palms to see if a slow dance would happen with that one cute boy life was worthless without.
The songs that definetely had to be on there were Eternal flame by the Bangles and Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh. Oh yes!

I used to torment my sister (who's name is Sarah) by claiming that was a ballad originally written for Terminator. "It was for the original concept--when he wasn't sent back to kill, but sent back...to love."

She used to get so mad. I guess because she believes it was written for her.

They should have used it in Terminator. Played during the Kyle-Sarah love scene. 80's perfection.

hahaha, I've dated like 6 Sarah's in my life and I think I played that song for all of them. Of course I never paid much attention to the lyrics, unfortunately...mostly I just wanted to do this:

Can that song by Daniel Beddingfield be classed as a ballad...

With a little tweaking, you could make a pretty brilliant song/video out of that concept. A Daniel Bedingfield spoof is a little past its sell-by date... but still! I'd watch it!

Well, i for one am appauled that Bon jovi allowed for the makers of ladies pharmaceutical products 'Always - Ultras' to use the song 'Always' during their advertising campaigns...

This bitch keeps bleeding, and you can see her blood
It's not that nice a feeling
That the old dog kicked up
It's been raining since she started
Now I'm drowning in the flood
You see I've always been a fighter
But without you I give up
