Ah, they were pretty good. Dunno about now, not heard them in a while.

Meanwhile, who can forget such lyrics as these?

Racism - we don't want it here
Sexism - we don't need it here
Fascism - we don't want it here
Keep that ism out of my head
Terrorism - we don't want it here
Leftism - we don't need it here
Fakeism - we don't want it here
We don't want it we don't need it

OK, maybe I can... o_0

Grandmaster Flash? Anyone?

I thought he was cool.

He had a great tune on the Basquiat soundtrack.

You get AH's forumite of the week award simply for mentioning it.

... doesn't mean you actually get anything other than my simpering adoration though.

MC Hammer.... but I think the point of the thread is more about the hybrid of rap/rock:

Run D.M.C./Aerosmith - Walk this way
Public Enemy/Anthrax - Bring the Noise
...ect.

Nas has done some great stuff with Damian and Stephen Marley.

I saw the political rapper K'naan, he was on stage first before Damian and Stephen Marley at the Fillmore. He was quite good. He's Canadian too.

hey 80's, they may be a bit too arty and out there for ya', but if you haven't heard of 'em yet you should give Dälek a listen.

Culture 4 $$

i ♥ them, but they're certainly not to everyone's taste...

They reversed the sound of their drums on an album. Definitely arty. definitely weird. definitely awesome.

No mention of the Beastie Boys yet?

Come on people, they were a punk rock band that became a hip hop group. They practically invented the genre along with really the entire late 80s NY rap scene.

Afrika Bambatta, Grandmaster Flash, RUN DMC, everything Rick Rubin touched, ect.

how many other people bust into a ginormous grin, eyes light with giddy glee, when one hears the snare opening and first verse of "It's Tricky"?

and then of course you gotta rap along 'cuz it's so fucking infectious.

it's like it's been hardwired into my DNA; it's compulsive, mandatory...

and I love it.

P Diddy and Jimmy Page -Come with Me

It was pretty cool, I thought. I just think Kashmir kicks a lot of ass in general, so it was sort of cool to see the hip-hop community listening to Led Zep, whether they realized it or not.
