Help me ID a piece of music

Postby judderman on Sun Jul 20, 2008 8:48 am

I'm going nuts. This Italian Dexter season 2 promo has a piece of music in the background that sounds almost exactly like another piece of music that I can't quite remember, and it's picking at the back of my brain. Weird thing is I didn't especially like that song to begin with, but now I need to know what I'm thinking of or it will go around and around in my brain forever.

At first I thought it was the Top Gear theme tune....then started to sound a little like The Sopranos theme.

I actually need help with the name of a track.

Anyone know the name of the hip hop track that starts with the 50's B Movie theme and then into a beat that goes something like wha wha wha wha. You hear parts or all of it over TV shows all the time, either the intro portion or the beat and I've been trying to pin it down forever.

I think you might be talking about 'The 900 Number' by The 45 King, which has also been sampled for a couple other songs since - let me see if I can track down a Youtube or something...

It is hiphop, but it's also kinda seminal '80's breakbeat, and everywhere I find it on youtube, its remixed or mashed up - is this the riff at least?

see if anything here sounds familiar

not that I've heard, I only hear it used as background music usually.

starting with the dramatic b movie horns dunnn dun dun... and then into the break with the wah wha wha wha which sounds like it could be the horns pulled in reverse.

they use it alot on MTV shows like cribs and whatnot, also you'll hear it used on a lot of lead in comercials. if I can find a video clip online using it I'd share it, but it's so widely used it's hard to pare down.

not quite, too technoey...

the track I need to find has a more scored begining, horns, etc. then goes right into the crunchy hip hop beat which sounds like it might be the opening in reverse with a heavy base track.
