FIFA 06 . . .Getting Strong Now!

Postby ONeillSG1 on Mon Oct 24, 2005 10:06 pm

Sorry, the Rocky reference was too tempting.

Anyone pick up FIFA 06? I just did today and it is a great improvement over 05. Graphics, cutaways, the commentary, the pace of the game, and the AI are greatly re-modeled for the better. The only thing I miss is the easier feel to the first touch but every step forward has its sacrifices I wager.

PROS:

-- A.I. much more "tricksy" in their dribbling, even on amateur mode.
-- Greater ease in the Career Mode, now labeled "Manager Mode", with more options including scouting unknowns and the player Loan system.
--Don't necessarily have to start with a one or two star team at the beginning of your career, for middle table teams (ex- Man City, Aston Villa, Undinese [sp], Marselle, to name a few) are available from the FIRST SEASON.
--All Star Teams available for "purchase" in the Fan Shop, as well as new kits, hall of fame player bios, etc.

CONS:

--Yet another formation system to learn, the third in as many years.
--Games played in Semi-pro mode are almost IMPOSSIBLE to win. This is a con because you are thrust into the action after placing the game into your system without the choice of changing settings at first.
--Harder to get the players you need, let alone want.
--Free kick and corner system without set pieces; no target recticle for Free Kicks and the confusing power gauge make it impossible to figure out where your player will strike the ball.

Overall, it is a step in the right direction, and it will give Winning Eleven a run for its money, but until WE is released, FIFA will have to do.

Overall score (so far): B+.

Madden 06 has restored my faith in the series.

BUT, since we have a few Internationals, I figured I'd ask about FIFA.

FIFA has kiddnapped me, but Madden owns me, and George Lucas is forever my master.

There is no greater football game than whatever the latest ISS Pro Evolution game is (currently 5).

I think this might be called Winning Eleven in some countries, it's certainly the same development team, but I'm not sure. So anyway, I chose to "ignore" this game as the Fifa games have basically been playing catch-up with ISS for 5 years now, in my opinion.

I'd much rather keep Fifa 05 and pretend that Patrick Vieira never left Arsenal.

Dedicated sports thread anyone? It'll help you get in touch with your 'jock' side. And provide somewhere to rant.

They better not, because I would then explode with glee.

I've been protesting EA ever since they signed that ridiculous deal with the NFL. Still makes me angry.

So I haven't had a new sports game for over a year now. It hurts but I'm going to stick it out.

Fuck EA.

Man did I love that game. I would work to perfect my dunks for hours. Hard to believe that I can now put my face on a character that looks just like me and can go run with Jordan, Bird, the Big Ticket and Doc J.
