The Music to Red Dead Revolver was good enough to put in a film, okay it was pure homage to Morricone but they created some pretty impressive themes I thought.

All the GTA games have great compilations too, Rockstar games in general have great music because they can afford the licenses.

Or in Axl Roses case, a DJ!

GTA was the first thing that came to my mind as well.

Old school for me too.
The sleazy, cheesy metal rockage of Doom and Duke Nukem 3D are hard to beat, although the martial musical stylings of Return to Castle Wolfenstein were awesome -- in a completely different way.
Come to think of it, the hillbilly tunes of Redneck Rampage, such as "My Baby's All Liquored Up" and "Nurture my Pig", were comedy GOLD.

-Even the original GTA had some great music!

-I'd also have to rate the music to Xenon II, the remix of Carpenter's theme to Assault on Precinct 13 - But I can't actually remember if it was in-game or not.

-Tomb Raider made excellent use of its soundtrack

-Have to mention Ocarina of Time again

-Vice City had Africa by Toto - it doesn't get any better than that

-R-Type: say no more.

-Amazed that nobody has yet mentioned..........Rygar!! One of my favourite themetunes ever!

-Well done for mentioning Streets of Rage 2 Dino - you must've been a spritely Septagenarian when you were playing that one! I think it was music by The Shamen, no? Move Any Mountain possibly?

-Can't leave without one strictly for the Brits: Jet Set Willy - addictive music!

Finger Eleven on SSX 3, I hate nu-metal style stuff but this is a blistering track perfectly matched to the game.

Of course with XBOX nothing is more fun than having your own music play over the on screen action.

Try locking someone in a phone box and then burtying them alive to the sound of "There must be an angel playng with my heart" on GTA San Andreas

Has to be either Final Fantasy 7 - Nobuo Uematsu is just a god.
Harry Gregson Williams and his Metal Gear Solid 2 soundtrack or Miki Hagashino for his work on Suikoden 2.

Final Fantasy 7
Aerith's theme gets me all bubbly just thinking about it and Sephiroth's theme has a great choral arrangement. There is a great cd that I got in Japan of Final Fantasy music being done by an orchestra that really is something.

Oh yeah, mario bros. too of course

Yeah, it does sound Streets of Rage-ish! Which level did it most sound like to you? Also, here's a fun fact, Public Enemy's classic track "Welcome to the Terrordome" has a soundbite of "SOR2" baddie "Big Ben" (one of those obese guys with the striped shirts). It's in the beginning before Chuck starts rapping. Listen for a laugh that sounds like "Bweeeheheheh!!"

The Megaman series rules, really good music and rock solid to boot.

Alonzo, I prefer Horace and the Spiders, for the 3 way challenge.

Cannot type properly due to Dino's Shamen rendition playing in my head......

Hee hee. Youse guys are funny. Horace goes skiiing rocked my world - although I preferred the initial stages where you had to cross the road to get to the ski shop, rather than the ridiculously hard ski runs. British games eh? So innocent and pure.

i love the psychotic 1-bit distorted synth / faux guitar riff at the beginning of SINISTAR. it's borderline musique concrete, like Karleheinz Stockhausen, Albert Ayler, Merzbow, and Alec Empire got together... but only briefly... it sounds like

rnnrnnnrnnnrnnnrnnnrnnnrnnRNNRNNRNNNRNNNRNNNRNNNN!!!

and then... it's over... until the next round in which we will once again hear these dulcet tones of intergalactic superspaceskull terror and excitements...

olde skool gaming was hardcore, yo.
