No real specs avaliable, except this interesting quote from IGN:
Reginald Fils-Aime :
"We announced the ability to download and play the best NES games, S-NES games, N64 games, in addition to Revolution games and GameCube games," he said in an IGN/G4 interview. "If you put those controllers all lined up together, they're all very different. So think about what kind of device is going to allow you to play all those different types of games. It's pretty interesting."

You will be able to go online and download any Nintendo game, according to the report.

But PS3 will be able to play Blu-ray DVDs, or so I read.

And that's the only use I could find for one. I don't play video games.

I have a PS2. Well it was cool when I bought MSG2 anyway. But I'm going for the XBOX 360 when it eventually gets over to the UK. I need Halo 2 online and I need it now!!!

I think if the Nintendo Revolution is done right it can be better than any of these consoles, but right now we have no specs so I can't say anything.. yet.

Wow, it's a tie (for now) Looks like Nintendo got a real vote of confidence there. I thought they were gonna bail the console arena.

The cool thing about the Nintendo is you will be able to download previous Nintendo system games to play, Super NES or N64 or whatever. A simple thing, but if handled right it would be a big selling point, who doesn't have some old Nintendo system game they want to play, but are too lazy to hook up the old system, or the old system is broke.
However, if they make it too expensive or do not have a really wide library, it will be pointless...

I voted for the PS3, because judging from the pictures above, it seems to be the only one with a controler. The Nintendo does offer a really nifty frizbee though. Tough call. Actually, upon second look The Nintendo appears to be firing that disc. That could cause some real damage. I want to change my vote.

It seems fair to say that the next gen consoles will pretty much follow the pattern of the current ones:

X box 360 will be the most powerful
PS3 will have the widest choice of games
Revolution will offer you certain games and gameplay which you can't get anywhere else, but it won't be sufficient for it to outsell the other two.

From Nintendo's point of view, this isn't so bad, because Microsoft and Sony make a loss on every console they sell, so they really rely on huge-selling games to rectify things.

It's a little amusing that Nintendo are still being so cagey about the Rev controller - but there is some history there; before the N64 came out, they decided to release early shots of the analogue controller, which allowed Sega to hastily cobble one together for the Saturn, and Sega effectively pipped the big N to the post - they are still bitter about that to this day.

Anyhoo - it's fairly obvious what the Rev controller will be - basically a larger or different-shaped version of the DS. In other words, the interface will be a touch-screen, maybe with a couple of shoulder buttons and possibly even a d-pad. I am so convinced of this, I'm willing to bet a large amount of cash on it.

Mark my words; the Revolution's controllers will be wireless, with a large touch-screen.

I would also guess that you can use a DS as a Revolution controller.

Is touch-pad the same as touch screen? Because if so, I'd need to see where you read that, because it seems a very unlikely thing for Nintendo to do.

Reggie's comments kind of give it away. What he's basically asking is this:

"how do you have one controller which can perform the functions of a NES controller, a SNES controller, an N64 controller, and a Gamecube controller?"

The answer to that question is that you either have a controller which can change shape like a transformer, or you use a touch screen. It'll be a touch screen, I'll keep saying it until I see the thing.

I increased the Xbox lead. I love me some Halo, and Lucasarts games generally come out first for XBox (for good (KOTR) or for bad (most of the others)).

Bean, the problem with Nintendo is that there are no games available, and 50% of the games that are available are for 7 year olds. I love Zelda and Mario, etc., but not enough to buy a Nintendo. Plus, see Dino's note regarding emulators for the older games.

Hey - I love me some MAME. Don't get me wrong Dino - I have a lot of love for the X-Box - and I certainly consider it a far superior machine to a PS2...... but dude, have you played Donkey Konga 1 and 2? You'll want to take those bongos to bed with you when you do!

I rarely see most of my X-Box owning friends these days - because they're all indoors playing Halo 2 online. A fantastic game - but I just don't have enough time for Halo 2 to be a realistic proposition for me. I need games you can pick up and play, and Nintendo still rocks for those kind of games.

Don't even get me started on PC gamers. World of Warcraft, anyone? Fancy giving up all other aspects of your life for 6 months? Then it's the game for you!! Again - I fully accept that if you do have the time on your hands, it's an incredible game - but I don't, damn it!!!

Of course, Pro Evo (5) must get a mention simply for being the best damn football game in existence - and the only reason to buy a ps2 these days.....

World of Warcraft is not that involving. I mean, it can be, but I played for only 25 days and I got to level 40 easily in that time. And I am a lousy gamer who works and goes to school.

City of Heroes is the game that would suck up every last minute of my life if I let it.

Yeah, I'd pay to see Dino slaughtering random law-abiding citizens, to be fair.

This should probably be in the confessional thread, but I did once spend an entire week off "sick" from work playing the dreadful Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds on my PC - I just loved the way you could build Sith Temples and then send out your Sith Lords to wreak destruction on the....oh, never mind
