The Phantom Zone Movie Pub Quiz! (Now with Poll + Peanuts!)

Postby Flumm on Tue Feb 14, 2006 3:12 pm

In the tradition of the Stupid Question/ Stupid Answer thread, the Name That Song thread, the Six Degrees of KB thread, even the Link The Movie/Chaos thread, I bring you the The PZ Movie Pub Quiz...

Simply enough, you a pose a question on movie trivia, and the next person has to answer it - before anyone else does. They then take on the mantle and pose a question of their own devising. There are no rules, I would only ask that as with a real traditional Brittish Pub Quiz keep your wits about you, avoid the glances of angry drunks (male/female or other), and instead of copping out and asking google, give your brain cells a dusting off and try your best.

Oh, and if this thread doesn't sink like a stone, and your really ambitous, the person with the most correct answers at the end of a page of 50 posts, wins a half a bag of roasted peanuts that I found on the floor...

So to get the ball rolling, and seeing as it's Valentines day...

haha we could get into the whole debate between brain death and cardiac death  . . . considering his brain (I think the technical term) was "mush", I'd say it's a safe bet to count it as one of the deaths (in the order of discovery of death, at least) :-P

Seeing as it's mostly Brits up at this time, a little bumpage... you can now vote in a completely pointless poll to decide where the pub quiz is taking place....

And I have no idea Whedon, I haven't seen it, so I'm gonna go for the odds, and guess Spitfire...?

And my question is, what Alan Smithee movie starring Jodie Foster and Dennis Hopper, has fire in the title....

Catchfire, it was actually direced by Hopper himself but it's so unbelievably stupidly awfully lame that he was quite right to disassociate himself from it. Now he's only the star of the move so that makes it all ok I guess

The West Wing? Clear and Present Danger?

I went with 12 Monkeys...that'd be a cool name. And you'd always get a lock-in because the landlord would be too busy practising sleight-of-hand with the key.....

I remember seeing it late one nate on TV, and just thinking to myself, is this really a movie, or can I just be having another surreal dream, with a crazey Dennis Hopper role, dancing mexicans, and Jodie Foster randomly getting naked, again...?

Hahahaha - I love the way this thread was going for all of 20 minutes before it started to fall apart. I'd just like to say I think it's a great thread idea, but only if people actually get the questions right, and using imdb or google shouldn't really be allowed. You should answer a question only if you know the answer.

And, with regards to Whedo's question "what is a pub quiz". At the risk of stating the glaringly obvious, it's a quiz......held in a pub. Loads of pubs in the UK hold them on weeknights, as a way of boosting numbers/giving their punters something to do other than fighting. There are usually prizes for the teams which come in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. I go to one almost every Monday night, and our team almost always finishes in the top 3, which usually pays for all the beers we drank that evening.

I went to a pub in Canada once where they had this super-sophisticated pub quiz, where everybody had a little box with 4 buttons on it, and you answered multiple-choice questions which came up on a big screen. It was networked all over the country, so you could see how you were doing compared with other teams all over Canada. That was about 7 years ago, so I'm surprised the phenomenon hasn't taken off....

Hhaha VB, nice one. You know what's unexpected, is that it's actually starting to haev the atmosphere of a proper Pub Quiz...

I expect by the last question, that there will have several rounds of " AVE IT!!", quite a few "GET IN THERE, MY SON!!!'s", and one of us will have tried to drunkenly chat up the barmaid, by telling her that we know a guy who could get her a weekend in Santorini, no questions asked....

If all goes well that is.

Ahh VB, tis your turn mate...

EDIT: TTIG, that Canadian pub quiz sounds amazing. Trust someone else to do a British tradtion better than we can!

HAHAHAHAHAHA! sorry for the cheap shot....but its amost as if.....clues had been left to us, buried in the actual given term by an ancient civilisation.......

MasterWhedon you may be....but from this point on to me you will always be The Zone's very own "National Treasure"

What phone number does Marty's lass write down at the beginning of Back To The Future and whose number is it?

I have a weird ability to retain numerical information - thought the number of the diner in Bugsy Malone might be a bit too obscure. Surely no-one can know that.

Anybody else here share VB's Rainman-like ability?

I'd like to shop at WALLMART (lets see sir...Falling Down DVD, cheap liquor and a Glock...that'll be £299 please...)

I'm banned from at least one casino, according to my friends....(my memory lets me down for that one)

...and I occasionally like to comment on my own farts...does that count?

Come on - "I'll be at my Grandmother's - let me give you the number" It's a 555 number which gives you all a 1 in 10000 chance of getting it right.

Bugsy Malone is Columbus-19785.

I still remember the password for the last level of Lemmings on the Amiga as well. GINNLFMIJX.

Not sure on the BTTF number, but on the computer tip - 6031769 is the choose room code for Manic Miner on the Spectrum.

Does that count? For anything??
