Well, there isn't one yet... And to get things going...

Sam and Max return in "Culture Shock". It's being released in an episodic format, a trend which is growing.

Here's a good interview with the comics creator Steve Purcell where they talk about the game in terms of it being released like a t.v show.

I don't know if I'm a big fan of this new trend, to pay as I go, but if it helps as an interim method to help companies establish themselves and see quicker returns on increasingly costly and time consuming products then I guess I have no choice but to be for it. I guess that means I like things in larger doses, but hey, I guess I can always wait until season finale to get my rewards! I know for one that Doom was a sensational first episode of a saga, something that really could be played over and over. What do you guys think?

The thing with these games you are only paying £10 or so to play them then if you like it you can get the next one. As I understand it the Sam & Max games will be self contained stories so you can dip in and out as you see fit.

With something like steam I think that we will start seeing alot of AAA games being available on this. The Digital Distribution may just allow some companies to experement a little more and take more risks than they can currently. With Live arcade on the X-Box/360 this shows the way forward for the console market especially with Nintendo and Sony copying this idea for their next consoles.

As direct form of distribution it should also help with their finances and by cutting out the middle man hopefully bring with it cheaper prices... I wonder what game retailers think to this new development?

They are probably shitting themselves over it. The prices in my local Game are nearly £15 more than I can get if I ordered online and thats for the boxed game not a download. Let's not even talk about pre-owned games, though thats more of a console problem.

I've been curious if the Sam and Max game is worth getting. I have fond memories of the original.

You can, also, buy the set as a whole now at a discount and get the episodes as they come out and then get a CD or DVD of them when the series is completed.

I recently purcahased Neverwinter Nights 2, which has been good thus far.

Any of you zoners have Warcraft III? That would be fun to play, if we grabbed enough folks! I figured it would be better this way because not everyone has an Xbox but obviously we have computers.

Ck...I'm in total agreement there. I got HL2 and I need ep 1 and 2, they look amazing.

I have one big problem with this sectional releasing....and its simple maths.

Part 1 = 10 (dollars or pounds, you choose)
Part 2 = 10
Part 3 = 10
Part 4 = 10

Thats 40 for a full game. Now if the game is much bigger than a standard single release, I won't be complaining but if its the same size and it works out to be more expensive than buying the single release I'm gonna spit blood.

Lets take for example HL2. The game was Big, HUGE and worth every penny with what you got (counter strike et all). Now theres the expansions at 15 dollars will eps 1 and 2 be larger than HL2? I don't know yet but I wouldn't want to see abuse here...like say the money people pay a month for WoW and then the additional costs of expansion packs.

I'm worried that its more becoming a simple way to keep constant revenue streams so they can sit back and just reap the profits. I mean, on steam, I can't stand all those popcap games when I just want to search from 'proper' games, just because they can afford to use the steam system.

On the plus side, it should mean cheap games (no manuals or discs), an easier way to see if the market actually likes the games and to get feedback and a good way to test new products (Defcon for example).

I'm still not totally sold until I see more 'honourable' sales systems and not just companies habitually thinking of the $ or £ before the game.

Geeze I haven't played that in forever. I'll have to give it a go with you. I stopped playing PC games when I got an Xbox and realized they are almost the same thing. Still, I make time for Sim City 4 and stuff. Working on a computer all day sure makes sitting on one at home sound depressing though! Pretty much ruined my love for computer games.

HAHA! It’s been a while for me too… I’m a C&C Generals boy these days… well that’s when I play at all.

I got thinking about it over the weekend because a newish roomie of mine is Sth. Korean and we were having great old chats about the video games comps. and stadium that they've built. Starcraft is the biggest game out over there that is played by the pros.

That promoted me to delve into my care package from home and pull out the original copy I sent over. Very niace....

PC Game Modding

Postby Fawst on Wed Jun 13, 2007 1:24 pm

Hey, couldn't find a thread like this so delete it if I'm posting out of turn.

Does anyone do any modding/scripting/level editing? Specifically, I am wondering about HL2/CSS and Neverwinter Nights. I have done a little level editing for CSS, but what I want to know is, where should I go to find out more about scripting? For either of those two games.

I found one very good tutorial (which I will link to when I get home) for level editing, but I want to take this a step further. If anyone has any good sites, I'd love to hear about them!

Sweet :) I was tearing into level editing for CSS for a while there. A friend of a friend happened to be over one night for a barbecue when I was putting some final touches on GunGame map and it turned out that he worked for Iron Lore, creators of Titan Quest. He got me in for an interview to be a QA tester, but unfortunately for me, someone with a degree in Game Design applied as well. Out of 10 people, I came in second :P Worked out for me, I'm making more money now at the same job I had back then, and that guy was let go as he was a temp and they didn't need him any more.

Anyways, my whole point is that I want to start working on this stuff again so that I can put a "demo reel" together to send to the companies here in MA. I NEED to get out of the 9-6 office life. You know what they say, anything you want in life you need to work twice as hard to get.
