OOH OOH: Monkey Island?

Or is that way too close to pirates? I swear i seen a couple of bits in it stolen from the game.

It sounds like a great idea but I think in principle, it would be bad.

How would you get that great comedy onto the screen? All the best joke lie surrounding Guybrush talking to the camera.

How about a tv series? Malcolm in the middle manage al the talk to camera stuff quite well.

Or just have him say the lines to a different character, as the difference between film and game is that you no longer need to feel like a character to be more part of the game.

So true, but I'd only want to see it if they could recreate that effect when you smack the ghouls into the wall and they, erm, splatter everywhere. I'd want it to be the goriest movie ever, basically.

Nobody mentioned Shenmue yet? Shame on y'all. Also, Body Harvest, that N64 game - that had some cool story elements: evil aliens trying to take over The Earth, a time-travelling Super Soldier, loads of vehicles. I loved that game, and I've only just found out that it was developed by the people who would go on to become Rockstar, which kind of explains why the vehicles in the game were so cool and fun to drive.

And if none of those suggestions interest you, what about Mrs Mopp? I can see it being filmed as a gritty realist drama.....

FAHRENHEIT (INDIGO PROPHECY) is an obvious one I guess, being that it was more film than game in the first place (and a good one at that). Rather than live action though, I'd like to see it as a cel-shaded animation - like XIII.....which I would also like to see made - but as a long-running TV series - like the best episodes of U.N.C.L.E crossed with The Fugitive in terms of tone.

Kudos to Seppu for being the only one to give a shout out to the first DEUS EX game, that could be a solid sci-fi title. I'd like to see someone gritty like maybe Willem DaFoe play the lead in that.

I'd love to see what any of the leading Japanese directors would make of a film version of ICO - somehow though I think it would flounder in the hands of most Western directors.

And give TIMESPLITTERS to a proven action director. Verbinski is just about insane enough to handle that one :D :D :D

No no no. Malcolm in the Middle is totally different from Monkey Island.

Malcolm makes asides to the audience unlike in Monkey Island where you and Guybrush are integral.

Having another character but I think that adding another element (probably to be played by Chris Rock or someother comic character that can scream "HELL NO! I AIN'T DOING THAT!") would cheapen the feel.

The best jokes are between you and Guybrush, like when you do something too many times and it doesn't work, he comes out with a funny quip. I think Monkey Island is too personal a game to be turned into a film. Still....there would be some great celluliod moments...like the swordfighting..a la Princess Bride....and the rubber chicken.

Elite and Wing Commander as TV mini series?

How about Wipeout as a fast and furious style film? or better still stick a bit of rollerball style politics in there with it. (sorry for not just editing my post, IE is playing up)

ONLY if it reunites the entire cast of Wing Commander 3.

Particularly old Buford/Biff himself, Thomas F Wilson as Maniac - and ex-porn star Ginger Lynne Allen.

I know it'd be a bit too much like The Running Man or Rollerball, but I'm gonna say it anyway: Smash TV. Set in an alternative late 80s/early 90s universe.

Starring Paul Walker as Contestant No.1: the young Turk. Total preening asshole. So confident in himself that he even checks himself out in his little pocket mirror in the middle of gunning down baddies. We find out he has a rare fatal disease called Myaposis at the end, and the operation to get rid of it costs exactly as much as the winnings.

Starring Michelle Rodriguez as Contestant No.3: the raging lesbian. She wants to prove that just because she's a girl, doesn't mean she can't gun down thousands of baddies and win free refrigerators all the while. Falls in love with Contestant No.3 shortly before she dies.

Starring Keith David as Contestant No.3: the veteran. He already won this competition once a few years back, but he blew all his money investing it in the short-lived fad: jery curl-cologne. Needs the money to pay off the Shylock on his back.

Or read waaay too many background stories that came with games like Mortal Kombat.

Did you know that Johnny Cage said he once competed in Smash TV? It's true! Wikipedia says so: "According to his Konquest Mode profile on Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, the character Johnny Cage once took part in a celebrity version of SMASH T.V., defeated Mutoid Man with his Forceball attack and gave his prize winnings to charity."

That's sweet. :)

Oh and mr locksmith...

hungry hippos did tend to rule.

They did a cluedo tv series, but what about movie?

The biggest thing would probably be those space marines type of board games that were amazing over complicated. I got bought one about 3 years before the recomended age. Then I found computer games by the time I was old enough.

Two games that were nearly interactive movies to begin with:

1. Thief
Image

2. Deus Ex
Image

Don't write a new story, just follow the games exactly as they play out. Fantastic stories. These were 2 games that were honest to goodness too good for the mainstream gamers but universally loved by critics. Deus Ex is considered by many critics to be the greatest PC game ever made. Thief is just plain bad ass with a great story and an incredibly likable anti-hero.

You could probably have any pretty boy play in Deus Ex. Thief would require a pretty charismatic actor. Honestly, a serious Johney Depp. Johney Depp as a mix of Han Solo meets Depp's FBI character from Once Upon A Time In Mexico.

Tetris as a movie - sounds tight. Of course, everyone can plainly see that it is a thinly veiled Communist allegory meant to indoctrinate our nation's fine, democratic youth. Think about it- all pieces must fit in to one cohesive whole, or the entire thing eventually collapses on you. Plus, it was designed by a Russian. During the Cold War. Mmmm hmmm!

There was actually a documentary filmed about the man that made tetris, and the struggle over who had the right with a backdrop of america vs russia. I only ever saw a long promo of it, I never had digital at the time, think it was on BBC 4. Would love to get a chance to watch it now.

But if I recall the game right, which might not be the case, all the agents that carried out the action were controlled by the player. So there was just one real human who wasn't interacting with anybody.

I think that Duck Tales, staring Gizmoduck would be a better choice then Chip and Dale. Hell who care's about talking chimpunks when you can care about talking ducks!

Oh wait, Howard the duck... right...

Have you played Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers? That game is rad. Especially when you can be Dale and chuck Chip at a bunch of Jack in the Box's.

Don't write a new story, just follow the games exactly as they play out. Fantastic stories. These were 2 games that were honest to goodness too good for the mainstream gamers but universally loved by critics. Thief is just plain bad ass with a great story and an incredibly likable anti-hero.

hells yeah! finally, someone else here who is aware of the gaming gold that IS "Thief". the world created by the game's makers is unlike any i have seen in a movie. a surreal mix of magic, swords, technology, paganism, zombies, and mysticism all wrapped up into a hell of a place for a master thief, trained by an ultra secretive organization of seers, to do his thing. and there are three games to draw from, the first two for PC only, the third was for X-Box too and the image above is from that one, which all have their own distinct and very cool storylines.

honestly, the writers of the game did what movie-writers rarely pull off with a trilogy. they retained the identity of the world, the character, the feel, weaving a common thread through all 3, tying them together, yet creating stories that still have enough of their own develpment to stand on their own.

Actually... a zelda movie would be cool but I am sure someone has already thought of this.
