Zoner Quizmania

All things controller driven will be talked about here.

Yo Raul, Al_Shut...

So you two may be the only quizers left (at least on the music quiz). I'm heading out on vacation in a week (2 1/2 weeks) and won't be on the quizes, likely starting tomorrow.

What would you like to see on the custom music quiz during that time? Or would you rather just have random like the rest of the days?

Well, it's hard to make a specific suggestion without being selfish. Random quizzes might be better, because it's easy for a lot of customs to get stale after the third or fourth time through. And we don't want to turn off potential recruits by having something overly specific...

Yeah, it's been a good run. Surely the only eight-month winning streak in Quizmania history. Any chance you can hop on to play for a couple minutes in the hotel lobby or at internet cafes? You said you're going to Disneyland, right? The whole place is probably blanketed with Wi-Fi...

Heh. Good point! I probably will be taking a laptop along (unfortunately I'm never completely "on vacation"). Who knows!

If I don't, you're guaranteed a win. With only two playing, the only way to fall behind is to not play!

What happened to all the folks who were gonna play this month? Sheridan? minstrel? brabs?

Urgh. New categories tomorrow.

The lack of participation really is noticeable, when I lead a quiz you know something is wrong.

It's not too late for everybody to gather at least 10 played days to compare the average points.

I won 6 out of 8 quizzes in January, considering that I played 5 days or so more than the two non wins are a bit embarressing.

The question for we tournament hosts is, do we throw in the towel and shut down after a certain period of time? or do we do what THE PRICE IS RIGHT does and keep going no matter how little attention we get? I don't want to put up a generic custom category and just abandon Movie Mania--I either want to be engaged with it, or close it up. I wouldn't delete the tournament, along with everyone's scores--I'd just set every day of the week to "NO CATEGORY - GAME CLOSED TODAY."

Then again, if Quizmania is to be born again, it will probably randomly emerge by someone bumping the thread, and that'll be impossible if we're all locked up.

it was fun for awhile, but there's only so many categories and questions on there.

i wish we could find a platform where we could make up our own trivia questions and such. i think that'd be a lot of fun.

Repeat questions occur just often enough to be a fun part of the game. It makes you pay attention and read through your incorrect answers, and then brings your powers of recall into play.

Why not just have a few admins run one quiz?
We can each come with a custom quiz every once in awhile to mix it up, from whatever category, and we can have a good number of different types of questions.

Just combine 3 or 4 quizzes.
Then one person doesn't have to always try and come up with something fun and different all the time.

Two weeks down in SoCal... paying pilgrimage to the Mouse, and avoiding "end of days" caliber storms!

I won one of those "Year of a Million Dreams" thingies and got to hang out in a suite as well! But no laptop to Zone. I actually felt withdrawl symptoms after a few days ;)

Aye, this could be a good way to rebrand Quizmania. Give me a little time to wrap my head around the specifics. It might be smart to launch March 1st so that everybody can join in with a fresh start...

Yo Raul... it's just you and I in February. Basically, that means most of the quizes are already settled (assuming we each play every day). I may just take a rest until we do the "rebranding". I'll probably still do the music quiz (just 'cause I find it fun). And it's actually the only one that's still competitive, as we each have the same number of points. It just comes down to who wins the head-to-head more often!

Yeah, I've decided to close (but not delete) Movie Mania after this Saturday. I might reopen it once the next gen quiz is up and running just for folks to play randomly and remember the times that were, but I think it's a good idea to lie fallow for a little bit.

Most of the ones I didn't get are ones I wouldn't have thought of. I mean, Star Wars, Jaws, The Godfather...?? Oooops!

I totally forgot "American" and kept trying Roshomon, Yojimbo, Seven Samurai.

I also can't believe I forgot King Kong, The French Connection, Maltese Falcon.

'Cos I knew that PLATOON belongs in there, not bloody FULL METAL JACKET!!!!!

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN is in there too, not frarking THE THIN RED LINE!!!!!!

I got 21. Not bad for 7 minutes gameplay.

Does looking at your DVD collection on the shelf constitute as cheating?

There's a clue in the chart telling you how many movies were made in the series, though there's some in there you wouldn't have guessed, I mean, who'd have thought STAR WARS would be up there?!!?!?

Oscar Winners from 1970 to date.

When you got 5 minutes ticking down it can put you off a bit.

I think I was short of about 5 or 6 movies overall. Gotta keep that mind open when you're going through it here. Looking at a computer screen let alone a clock can swell it up and close it.
