Well, I have been screaming and shouting at myself earlier on today trying to play it, but again, I wasn't in a mindset to go all those 70 levels for hours and hours of a marathon run so I weren't expecting to even beat Doc's poor score, but I still found that I could take out Havoc a lot easier than before. In fact, dodging and surviving the actual Bots themselves I found to be easier.

So... and I know you're never gonna read this Burl, but, just get ready for this Clubberlang to steal your Championship Belt away from you, Mr Rocky left nut.

Okay, so the mark of a the good producer is a to recognize ones foibles anna to learn from a the mistakes, no?

Anna upon a the reflection... the Dinotron, she's a not a the runaway success that was a the Dino Kong, eh? Anna so's a the Dino, he got a to thinking... why is it that a none of a you putzes are a playing the game, eh?

Perhaps it alla comes down a to release dates, no? Anna the release of a the Dinotron, she was a too close a to a the Zoner Quizmania, eh?

Or a perhaps a the game, she's a too complicated with a the left- anna right-handed controls, eh?

Or a perhaps a the game, she's a just a the no fun a to play, eh?

Or maybe it's a the combination of a the multiple factors, no?

Inna any event... the Dino, he would a like a to know what you liked anna dinna like about a the game, anna how we can avoid a the future box office disappointments, eh?

So come on, putzes... 'splain to a the Dino....

Personally it was more fun for me to play than Dino Kong. So I don't think it was gameplay.

I blame Quizmania.

Adam Balm wrote:Personally it was more fun for me to play than Dino Kong. So I don't think it was gameplay.

Agreed, Zoner Quizmania was perhaps one Extravaganza too many...

Although I'm not sure I'd say D-Kong and D-Tron directly compare for me.

I actually reallly like the first few stages. Perhaps I am reading too much into it, but on first playing, I though the balance in the learning curve was subtley done. In that there's the obstacle putzes, that while undefeatable, further your co-ordination and newly found arrow-key skillz, while preparing you for the harder stages just around the corner.

Also the presentation is stronger than D-Kong, I really dug the arcade theme, the controllers, the score boards, all nice touches...

Personally, if I had to take a guess, I'd say perhaps that people are being discouraged by the enormously high scores.

Especially in comparrison to the two "halves" of the game.

I know, at one point, after those earlier stages, she kind of segways into the main deal, of the Havoc Vs The Kirk Vs The Pron, and that's the crux of the idea...

Yet, the skill-curve at this point (and I think there is one, as Kirk mentioned, finding your groove with the abundance of things on screen and such), but it's not so obvious, perhaps, and adds to the percieved dejection of all the peeps way up there in the scoring stratospheres.

Not that obvious is a good thing, but in a way, the achievements in gameplay are harder to register. Essentially, from that point, the game is over almost. Near enough 'tis like it's a the countdown untill it's done and dusted, and your just grabbing at points untill the game is over, waiting to see if you even made it do the scoreboard...

I don't know, maybe that isn't a bad thing.

Just observatin' as requested, Dino...

EDIT: Perhaps ia couple of more intermediary stage, maybe?

You know how the old arcade puzzle/scrollers would often steady escalate in difficulty of puzzles and foes...

One minute you're pushing one block here, jumping one putz there, shooting this putz there - there tends to be a graduation, and with each stage, a smaller sense of victory into the whole...

I 'spose also, that drip feeding of achievement, could be enforced a little more heavily at the end of round screens, maybe... instead of waiting to click through them, a little something to savour perhaps might help things along...

Ums.

That's all I gots, old man...

by The Todd
Coming out at the same time as Quizmania definitely didn't help. But The Todd did try his hand at DinoTron and then Dino Kong. And The Todd has to admit that he prefers Dino King because it's easier to play. I feel like I have a chance to reach the high score board of Dino Kong, unlike DinoTron, where the high scores reached 7857439857348957483975893475 within the first few minutes of being up and running.

Why keep playing a game where the highest level I can get to is 11 when the high score list is populated with people in the 50s, 60s, and 70s? There's no fun in that.....

I know why you're pissed off...

You spent long and hard working on making a quality parody of one of the finest games of all time. All the elements were there; you had:

1) Great graphics
2) Great sound
3) Kirk
4) Havoc

You had a high score table that everyone on the zone could compete on and have fun and hours of wasted life on the zone. It was all going so well.........

Till a No0b turned up and said,

"Hey, Guess my film that I've drawn in 3 seconds with paint, then you have a go"

Somehow, all your hours seem wasted. Tangerine is Joker to your Batman. Such a simple plan to unravel your masterstroke of Zonie domination.

Bad news, Kirk. The donation I made to DINOTRON? It was the fees I had saved up for my 2008 subscription to The Zone. I'm going to need more information about your variety of convenient payment plans.

And for those of you who may have missed it in Pacino's presentation to Dino of the DDL Lifetime Achievement Award...

Typical of old people. You give 'em everything you can....and they still bitch about how newbies get all the credit.

Someone buy Dino some cats, a hair net and a subscription to readers digest before the altzheimers sets in.

Hooray!

The screenshot from the new game reminds of that Pipe Dream game from Lucasarts. Are you using that as an inspiration, Dino?

And I like what you've done with the IPAMPILASH site. In theory, it now acts as a Zoner recruitment tool, should any wandering gamers happen across it. I'm not sure I like the new backround for DINO KONG... it may just take some getting used to. But at least the original version is still up for us purists.

And BTW, all of the high scores on DINOTRON should have asterisks next to them, because they were achieved before the game was rejigged, were they not? I'd like to see burl get to Wave 76 in the current version.

Yeah, thanks for your anticipation on this project. I finished my cataloguing on Feb. 1st, unfortunately coinciding with the start of one of the busiest times of my work year, and the loss of some staff. The grueling festival we put on extended past the first week of March, and I've since been the only person in our box office who knows what's going on and have had a lot of extra fires to put out. Our next show is expected to be extremely popular, so I fear a recurrence of what happened in February might be upon me, and I'm honestly worried about my mental health a little bit. I've been interrupted at least six times just writing this dinky little post, and that's with declaring myself to be on lunch and ignoring the phone. Aack!

But I don't consider Zone stuff to be a demand on my faculties in the same way work stuff is, so I'm going to go ahead and try to have my write-up done for a week from today, next Friday. I can't put a promise behind that ETA, but it is something that I want to have wrapped up, and the sooner the better since the information I pulled is becoming increasingly out-of-date.
