Half life 2: orange box

Postby papalazeru on Wed Oct 31, 2007 5:26 pm

The wonders of Hlaf life 2 have increased ten fold with this new wonderful expansion.

Given 10/10 it is a must buy for all PC gamers. So much so that I rushed out and bought it today when my paycheck came through.

The worst thing ever happened. The frickin' CD key was half printed.

I'm spitting blood over this.

I now have to wait another 2 days before I can change it again. Man, I'm pissed off.....

but I digress. Anyone witnessed the awesomeness of this 4 in wonder pack?

Zamers...(zoner gamers) please tell me it's awesome.

Team fortress looks so sweet.

I'm still debating buying this... It bugs me that I have to buy another copy of Half life that I don't want or need.

How much did it set you back?

I picked it up for the 360 and its great fun. Only been on portal and halflife 2 so far, because half life is sucking up all of my gamer time. I gave myself the night off tonight tho, as I cant be having another head crab dream. Awesome game that passed me by thus far (havent really had the means to play it).
Once you have played through portal I suggest youtube for some awesome tips and tricks (and exploits).

I want the lot. I trust the Valve team and for £34.99 (there's the price) it's a pretty solid buy.

Let's face it, it's all about the online with this sucker.

Plus, I really want to continue the Half life story. It was pretty awesome. Much better then other FPS's (excluding Deus Ex) (ignoring Deus Ex 2)

Ignoring Papa's problem (sorry! :D) I like to hold the CD for a game. If my hard drive wipes, I don't trust steam to remember my settings

Steam has Half Life 1 and all add-ons, Half life 2, etc and by now, it'd be a hell of a download!

Sorry CeeBee...I didn't make myself clear. I bought all my stuff for steam. I haven't paid a single dime, cent, or pound for something which isn't tangible.

My copy is bought. The printed sheet which comes in the box had a half printed serial. THAT'S what's so annoying.

BTW for you Zoners who still play on a PC and therefore must be one of the richest people on the world....there is a mod out there that will allow you to use the portal gun in Half-Life 2. Go find it. It's done very well.

you can just buy the stuff you want off steam.

And I was saying I don't like just buying the downloads, without the physical media. It's just a shame when what happened to you happens :(

But that is the risk we take as opposed to the steam down loaders having to re-download everything after a system crash.

Good luck getting a new code by the way :D

I think the portal game is test run for including the gun in the next episode of half life.

Heres a clip of the hacked gun being used as sushi mentioned.

I can't stand actually apparently (how many times can you put those words together?) owning something which can easily be removed. At least with owning the media in your house, on disc or anything which is physical property, it makes it harder for it to be taken away.

Sorry to go all 1984 but it's so easy for a company to deny any responsibility once you've paid with IP property but with a physical medium you always some something to go on and evidence - depending on the circumstances.

YOu are kidding. If you got Half life 2. You HAVE to have Steam.

Half life 2 is the must have game of the century...if you like the FPS's. Plus, the story is incredibly impressive.

I played the HL2 series only once it came to the 360.

Overall I was beyond impressed. I was amazed to see that the graphics hold their own with anything to have come out earlier in the year. They certainly do the job well and the lighting and texture effects are excellent. The atmosphere is fantastic and the bleak story very immersive.

The puzzles are great and very subtle, some times it takes a minute before you realise you are actually trying to figure out a puzzle. The vehical segments aren't canned and of limited duration. You're in them for a while, getting in and out, exploring around. You never know what's going to happen in those chapters. The weapon play is simple but effective and none of the weapons overshadow the Gravity Gun, which is clearly supposed to be the go-to weapon of choice.

I thought the three Half-Lifes were all flawless.

I'm only bumping this because I'm a die hard HL2 fan. It is my belief that very few other games achieve the level of quality in all aspects of a video game: graphics, gameplay, storyline, engine, etc...

Episode 2 was fucking amazing. Fucking AMAZING. The cliffhanger ending left me breathless. Episode 3 - omg, I can't even fucking imagine what's coming... what will the ending be about? How will Valve close this cycle up? What about HL3??? What will that be about? What will the new engine have in store?!?!?!

Just some questions to entertain while we wait the looooong wait for Ep3.

So, when's it coming out?

BUMP!

So Portal: Still Alive just came out on the 360 today for 1200 points.
Played the trial version.
It was fucking brilliant.

Not going to buy it though.
Buying the Orange Box (finally) so i could play the original version of portal & also catch up on everything that's happened since i played the original half life.

Would have bought it last year, but:
1) my gfx card is an old, noisy piece of shit
2) i didn't have a 360 until recently

Best to play it on PC just because of all the great mods.

I got to admit, steam has been fundament to Value's success over the years and is one of the best delivery systems I've ever come across. Paying for playing online with the Xbox? Fuck off. On PC it's free and it's equally as efficient.

Oh and CeeBee and I play Half Life: Synergy mod (where we play together in the main quest) with a bunch of friends and it's really impressive. Very enjoyable.

Hail Mods/Steam/Valve/Half life et al, and all it's creations.

Looking forward to Left 4 Dead.

Too late, it's already ordered.

To be honest, my pc is on it's way out.
I've replaced the monitor, the power supply, the ram, the sound card, the dvd drive, the hard drive, ( i've got 2 running just encase one fucks up), the operating system...

I will miss the mods though.
Mods are one of the best parts of first person shooters & have been since doom.

but my pc would most likely die if i put a new gfx card in it & i'm pretty much sick of having to repair it all the time.
If i buy another pc i'll trade in the 360 version for the pc version, until then...

Cheers KON, or KOOOOOOOON!!!!

heheh!

Well, when you get a replaced PC, if you do have HL for it, you can always run it off an external, which means that I can play Half life and everthing else on a machine somewhere else, it's amazing.

I don't blame you for ordering it, it's pretty amazing and Team Fortress is a dayum good reason to play it.

PM me your login when you have one, we'll play online at some point, if Xbox lets you play us talented PC gamers ;)

I just had another run through HL2 on the 360, trying to get some of the achievments I missed first time round.
All the way through Ravenholme using only the grav gun is a challenge but damn good fun. (Hint: Steal dogs ball from the junkyard, and it helps a lot!!)

I was going to leave it at that, and pick up dead space, but I think I will replay thru the episodes again.

Tempted to download still alive on arcade for the 14 extra challenges. According to IGN the extra challenges are a bit more difficult, and at least double the length of the game (and they are available free on PC apparently).
...and so forth.

Wouldn't risk it SJ. Having an old PC, this game WILL be hellish to play.

It's good to have 6 Gig of Ram and a 896Mb X260.

Still no word on Episode 3
Joystiq wrote:Half-Life 2 developer Valve Software is remaining unsurprisingly cagey in conversations about Half-Life 2: Episode 3. Speaking with G4, the company's managing director Gabe Newell said, "There are very good reasons why we're not talking about Episode 3, which I can't talk about yet."

When pressed on the possibility of hearing more about the game by the end of 2009, Newell downright dismisses the question and, instead, chooses to speak about the "rhythm" the team working on Episode 3 is developing
