All things controller driven will be talked about here.

Watchmen: The End is Nigh! (No, it really is)

Two things I love- Watchmen and video games. You'd think I'd be looking forward to this, but I can't say I am.

I can't wait to play for The Night Owl as he struggles with impotence. Will I need a WiiDildo for that?

Hahaha.

If I was in charge of this project, I'd give Rorschach Gears of War-esque brutal moves, and make a couple of Doc Manhattan levels where you blow through Vietnam. Flying around in Archie as Night Owl might be cool, because it would be when he's in his prime and hopefully before he's developed his very special case of E.D. A Comedian level could be cool, with sniping and shotgunning and the like.

Now that I'm imagining it, the gameplay might be cool, but the real judgment of the game will be in the story.

I heard its going to be episodic.
A different character for each episode, with 3 or 4 hours of gameplay, and probably different gameplay styles.
It could work if done right, and will be interesting to see.
With that in mind it might only make it to live, psn and/or steam, so I wouldnt hold my breath for a wii version.
...and so forth.

I was just joking, I don't have a Wii, just an Xbox Three Hundred and Sixty. It's just funny to me since Watchmen wasn't an action adventure story, but they're trying to promote the movie that way and now developing an action-oriented game even though most of the novel was just internal emotional conflicts.

As far as prequel games to movies, I always wanted a Kill Bill prequel game where you could do a bunch of Ninja Gaiden stuff back in tha day when the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad was all tight.

As for Watchmen, I dunno, it could be okay, but I think as far as superhero games go Batman Arkam Asylum will be waayyyy better.

Yeah, I got the gag, just throwing out the info I have heard about this project the last few months.

Mind you an impotence waggle game would be a bold move. I remember a similar game on the Amiga which had such crazy minigames.
Very dodgy, but hilarious when you are 12-14.

I miss the days when it seemed as if games were plotted by William Burroughs on a peyote trip. It was like having 50 completely different and equally shitty games in one. Maybe instead of only using next-gen technology to make games look better, it could also be used to make 10 or 11 different game engines and actually have a real step-by-step game adaptation for once, instead of just turning something like Watchmen into a straightforward FPS or glorified Streets of Rage.

I blame the Ginger Man...

It could be cool if you were Rorschach and the gameplay/ atmosphere was sort of like Condemned: Criminal Origins, where you had to solve crimes and stuff. That might be cool.

And it would be a plus to beat people down with lead pipes.

Warner Bros are quite convinced that releasing an episodic downloadable Watchmen tie-in game is not only innovative, but actually rather brave.

"We know it’s risky for us, and the safe move would have been to cram out a retail game alongside the film release," Senior VP Samantha Ryan told MCV, "but we didn’t feel that was the right decision.”

Surely the risk with Watchmen isn't the length of the game, the media it arrives in or how closely it aligns with the film's release.. it is the fact that Watchmen is such a beloved comic that fans are convinced it is going to stink up the place before seeing even a few pixels and will hunt you down, vigilante style if it is worse than they fear?

Ah. Relax, Watchmen fans. When we heard the episodic Watchmen games were to be "brawlers", it was hard not to be a little disappointed. Reducing one of the greatest comic stories ever told to a "brawler"? It was a poor fit. But it's OK! Because the games aren't based on the comic. They're prequels, set in the gang's younger, more pugilistic days, where you'll take on (at least in the first "episode") the role of either Rorschach or Nite Owl. Good news, no? Much better they mess with that than ruin the storyline of the actual comic. Now for the better news. Dave Gibbons is working with the development team as an "advisor", so even if they cock the game up completely, it should at least look OK.

the only way this would be acceptible to me is if it was done 80's style like Final Fight or Streets of Rage with 80's graphics as well. that would actually make a shit ton of sense.

Fuck you, WB.
Elitism is positing that your taste is equivalent to quality, you hate "Hamlet" does it make it "bad"? If you think so, you're one elite motherfucker.

Just a thought:
Have any Little Big Planet players found any Watchmen inspired levels?

I just read an article on Sony pulling lots of content for copyright infringement (Ouch to the creators, who spent hours on the levels) and for no good reason I thought of an LBP Watchmen level....

Edit: I dont own a PS3 myself so I cant investigate, just curious. (I want one, but they are just tooo damn expensive)

They showed a trailer at the Spike VGA's. Rorschach had some decent brutal moves, but otherwise this looks like something that I am going to have to completely forget about.
