DVD Case / Menu Spoilers {Here Be Spoilers... obviously}

Postby TheBaxter on Sat Apr 08, 2006 6:39 am

Since I see a lot of films for the first time on DVD, it really pisses me off when the DVD case or the menu gives away stuff from the movie.

For example, I have been working my way through Six Feet Under on DVD, which I never watched when it was on HBO, and I just got Season Five in the mail today. I already know better than to read the plot descriptions on the main page of each episode, but the case for this set seems to give away a couple of potentially big spoilers for this season, including one I suspect will be in the series finale...

SPOILERS (or at least guesses at SPOILERS)...

First of all, there's a picture on the back of the box with the whole cast, dressed in funeral attire, minus Nate. Since I've strongly suspected that at least one of them is going to die in the finale, this seems like a strong hint it might be Nate. Further supporting my guess, inside the box is one picture of Keith consoling a grieving David, and another picture of Ruth in a black dress walking away grieving while someone in the background appears to be being lowered into a grave. So I'm guessing Nate bites it in the final episode... I could be wrong, but if I'm right, I'd rather not have had that spoiled for me.

Also, there's a picture on the inside of the case of Nate and Brenda in wedding attire, so I guess that's been spoiled now too, though it's not that big a surprise.

P.S. Since I haven't watched these DVDs yet, please don't tell me if my suspicions are correct or not, or at least put them in inviso- or tiny-text so I can avoid knowing for sure til i've watched the DVDs.

Anyway, the point of this thread I guess is to bitch and moan about spoilers on DVD cases and menus. I didn't see a thread for this already, so I guess if you've got a DVD spoiler to warn the rest of us about it, here's a place for it.

Can't think of any from the case/main menu at the moment, but in the same way, some dvd's will do that with the titles of chapters . . . I remember watching Casino for the first time on DVD and halfway through it started skipping so I took out the disc to clean it off. When I put it back in and went to the chapter menu to find my place, I was met with chapter titles giving away key plot points . . . wasn't a fan of that
"Serves you right, Cartman, you're a sell-out!"
"I'M NOT A SELL-OUT! Wait- What's a sell-out?"
"Anyone in the entertainment business who makes money, is a sell-out"

You are *spoilers*................... ......... ............ wrong, btw.

Yeah, I f'in hate those DVDs though. Anyone who never saw the Star Wars movies before could read the little inserts in the DVD cases that show the chapter titles and basically you're reading the movie. And on the back of the OT DVDs, they just describe the entire plot anyway. I hate it when they print the chapter titles in the fucking case...its like when you're getting the movie out of it you have to avert your eyes or something.

OK, so I was *spoilers* .................................. wrong, but only on a technicality. he dies a few episodes sooner than the finale. i still would rather have not had that plot point spoiled. but at least i can still look forward to the finale itself, since now i don't know what's gonna happen in the last few episodes. i suppose i could end up being entirely wrong, and nate gets resurrected like jesus and lives happily ever after. i guess it's appropriate then that i'll be finishing this up over easter.
