Shit is about to get crazy with this record. Greg Street playing it back to back for an hour straight. Fanboys leaking barely audible radio rips onto message boards. But musically it's pretty much a non-event. Catchy enough to sustain the "Hey Ya" buzz but not likely to win over any new fans (like they need em...)
And that's what's so reassuring - it's not larger than life, it's just a good Outkast record. Outkast the reliable rap group who drops an album every 25 months, almost to the day. Not this inflated, mysterious and untamable web of pushed back release dates, side projects, vanity labels, movie careers, diamond plaques, "will-he-rap?" and break up rumors.
The homie YN might disagree, but this almost has me believing that the group just might survive the Love Below superstardom fallout. That Idlewild isn't going to be some overreaching conceptual mess and that 10 The Hardway doesn't just exist in Big Boi's head. I know that rap comeback lead singles can sometimes be deceiving (I see you Com Sense), but if anybody can do it it'd probably be the poet and the pimp. As a group they're still four for four on great albums. Even if it's been six years since the last one.

Damn I love his voice. My ultimate duet: Louis Armstrong & Tom Waits.
