So I was working in a record store when St. Anger came out in 2003. An attractive young woman came in to buy it on the day of its release.
I attempted some small talk. "I haven't heard this yet," I said to her as I rung up her purchase. "You'll have to come back and let me know how it is."
"Oh, I've already heard it," she said. "(The local rock radio station) played the whole thing last night on their Mandatory Metallica. It sucks. But since I already have all the other Metallica discs, I guess I have to buy this one too."
After she left, I wondered -- was someone holding her at gunpoint or something? Why didn't she just stop buying Metallica CDs when they started to suck? The way people did with Sting? It still leaves me scratching my head.
