Band Name Hall of Fame

Sigur Ros is the greatest living band. Discuss.

Band Name Hall of Fame

Postby St. Alphonzo on Tue Aug 15, 2006 8:20 pm

I'm not necessarily talking about the greatest bands here (although some might be)... just the greatest names. I've often grabbed a CD out of a cutout bin just on the strength of a band's name, only to find that the group obviously used up every ounce of creativity, talent and wit to come up with their moniker.

Anyway, here are my favorites:

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult
Kathleen Turner Overdrive
B.U.G. (Big Ugly Genitals)
JFA (Jodie Foster's Army)
The Dead Milkmen
Orchestral Manoevres In The Dark
Butthole Surfers
Circle Jerks
Neutral Milk Hotel
Toad The Wet Sprocket (any obscure Python reference will rope me in every time)
The The
and of course:
Patient Zero

What are your faves?

A classic punk band name: Jojo and the 16 screaming n******

Think that one was calculated to offend?

That'd be a good sub-category: band names that are body part/function euphamisms.

For example: ejaculation

Pearl Jam

I remembered reading something along the same sort of lines as this a while ago outside of PZ territory, so recalling a name or two, it took me but a lil' while to find it. I realise now the names are infact fictional, but I think it's a nice little testement to the unending immaturity/genius sprinkled across the internets and so perhaps worth a looksee anways...

And as we all know from "Trainspotting", it's a complete fucking misnomer anyway.

My personal favorite band name was a local band near where I went to high school: Shitty Shitty Band Band.

The irony was they were okay.

Thank you, Zoners, for the kindness, tolerance, and enlightenment you've shared with me. It may not have been deserved, but it was greatly appreciated nonetheless. Soupy twist.

I always liked to imagine whoever came out on stage to introduce them just making a surprised face and then walking back off. Sorta like

Ribbons, time for you to write a screenplay. A rock-band parody with that scene in it. That's freakin' funny!

My favourite band name ever is

Bruno Gerussi's Medallion

(pretty good band too)

My favourite fake band name (which I made up, btw) is

Anagram of Santa

(its a good name for a really bad, devil-lovin metal band)

But in seriousness, Smashing Pumpkins has always been my favorite band name.

D'oh!

You is very right kc, Pussy Galore is a cool name for a band.

When I first looked at the thread title, I thought it said Bond Name Hall of Fame, and so, of course, the first name to pop into my head was... then I realized what it really said, felt kinda silly, and thought it would be funny if I pretended I was going through the process of making that mistake while I was posting. I was vaguely aware that there was a band out there with the name Pussy Galore, but I was sorta hoping no one would call me on it.
