"The Last Emperor": Criterion

Not on the schedule yet, but definitely in the works.

Image picked up "The Last Emperor" along with three other films ("Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence", "The Hit", and "Insignificance"), and they're all getting Criterion editions as well as movie-only versions. According to the press release, the movie-only versions will feature the Criterion transfers.

Me, I'm curious to see what'll be on offer for this one. "Emperor" has had a couple of releases already if I'm not mistaken, so it should be interesting to see what Criterion can add.

I'll be curious to see if this "movie-only" policy extends beyond Image acquisitions. I'm not willing to shell out $40 for some Criterions, but there are definitely titles I'm interested in.

I love this movie. I saw it in the theater in 1987. I actually dont have it on DVD yet so I'll pick the new one up for sure!
