It's a great U-boat-style sequence.

'Drop 10,000 metres', Kirk is just playing 3-D chess with Khan. Brilliance. Remember that game?

It's great the way Khan never removes the glove of his right hand during the film.

Audiences at the time had forgotten about Spock's death rumours, because of his "death" at the beginning.

you know what would be funny? if after this melee between the enterprise and the reliant, when we see khan clawing his way up off the floor to activate the genesis device, we saw that the enterprises attack on the reliant had cause his phony plastic pectoral muscles to melt to his chest. like he wasnt just trying to convince us, the audience, of his facetious virility, but trying to fool his own crew as well.

i dont know, maybe thats only funny to me. :?

this is probably a question for balmy, but exactly wtf is a nebula, and would an explosion of this caliber really be able to eradicate the nebula entirely? and if so, would the destruction of the nebula have other repercussions throughout its neighboring space?

So I never understood why the Genesis bomb effected the planet, when it exploded in the nebula.

As the film has progressed, so Kirk's hair has become more pube-like. Like father, like son.

The physics behind it are about as soild as the planet in the next movie........just go with "the device was planned to be used on a dead planet, but it got used on a big area of gas instead" idea.

man, has anyone ever heard someone play the pipes? and i mean while you are in the room with the piper while he is playing? im sure you uk'ers probably have.
man, those fuckers are loud! they are like second only to drums in terms of loudness of natural (un-amplified) volume.

its just too bad benny goodman played the clarinet. can you imagine "song of india" or "sing, sing, sing" on the pipes?

Kirk is a lot more human, and down to earth in this film. Especially by the end of it. He has become more of a broken man, even if it ends on his note of hope.

He's been beaten, people have died, Spock's gone. He's become a fragile little kitten.

heh, that little white oval on david's uniform just above his left nipple should have "David" embroidered in Unocal 76 style cursive in it.

Exactly, this film is actually utter bollocks.

The rose tinted spectacles of geekdom strike again.

That's why the planet collapsed. Exploding it with a piece of machinery and not much more. I think the reason why the next film tried to explain this failure is flawed itself for this reason.

it would have been much funnier if spock's rotting carcass had been thrown from the torpedo tube upon impact on genesis's surface. maybe it could have landed in a tree or something.

would've been a much funnier capper to this flick.
although i'm fairly certain that that's NOT what they were going for.

*sigh* in a perfect world....

maybe for the next zoner commentary track we should do Fassbinder's "Berlin Alexanderplatz".

I <3 The Zoner Real Time Commentary threads.

Sigh, you guys have it down... what ever it is, exactly.

I would be nervous of participating now, I think. You've set the bar too high, I would be worried of vulcaning up your mojo.

In it's own way, it's a perfect slice of zone/geek culture, I think, too.

If this was Victorian England I would be "nonchantly" inviting you into joining my travelling circus as my star attraction.

Flumm: Behold!!!

are you crazy, flumm?

if we could get at least a couple more voices in here, these things would be even better. and that includes you, ro-buddy.

i used to think coordinating a schedule with a band was tough. but then came the zoner real time commentaries.

This is pretty good to read back. You can follow the film easily, illustrating the paper thin plot perfectly.

EDIT - yeah, you gotta have a go next time Flumm, we need more input!( no pun intended )
