I like that song - there's a remix I've heard a couple of hip hop dj's playing that's quite good as well - probably prefer You Know I'm No Good and a couple of other songs off the Back to Black album, however.

Amy Winehouse fucking RULES.

I just saw her in Boston a few weeks back, and it was an absolutely incredible show. Her band and backup singers/dancers were all spot-on. And she, shockingly, was drunk off her ass. I loved it because it's usually hard enough to understand a band when they talk to the audience. Her being absolutely pissed made it a moot point: couldn't hear her, and wouldn't understand her if we could. Her voice is even more impressive live than it is recorded. Say what you will about your like/dislike of her, but that is impressive to have such a powerful voice. Far better than 90% of the singers out there these days.

For the record, I didn't like Rehab when I first heard it either. Tears Dry On Their Own and You Know I'm No Good were the ones that drew me in. Fuck Me Pumps just sold me completely. Then, the cherry on top was hearing Ghostface Killa's version of YKING. I suggest anyone who hasn't heard that one checks it out.

I apologise for causing the confusion. There is someone in the Big Brother house who looks a teeny tiny little bit like Amy Winehouse, so I always refer to her by that name. Her real name is Shabnam.

One of my great record-store moments came when a teenage girl asked if we had any more copies of "Everything I Do." I told her we did not. She asked why. I said, "Did you buy Bryan Adams's last album?" She told me she hadn't. "Neither did anyone else," I said.

I find Amy Winehouse's voice irritating and I don't think the track was mixed very well. Her voice gets lost, which is odd considering its strength.

I'll admit, I don't like hearing Rehab on the radio, but only because it's not as good as some of her other songs. I'd rather hear those. But this is one of those cases where she has crossed many borders when it comes to radio play. Pop stations, rock stations, adult/contemporary and a few of the satellite stations have been playing her. It will die down eventually.

I think we could safely start filming a biopic for Amy Winehouse and just put off filming the part where she dies until near the end of the shoot when it will likely have occurred. Even if she doesn't OD while we're making the movie, these biopics always take certain liberties and I doubt she'd be offended if we showed her dying.

My suggestion is sort of a Sid&Nancy type deal where there's a bit of a tragic fairy tale feel to the whole thing. Maybe even get Alex Cox to direct it, but I'd prefer Pedro Almodovar since he has such a good humouristic touch on female characters and deals frequently with themes of death and mourning and tragic relationships. He could even do it in Spansih with Penelope Cruz. I mean they made movies about Marie Atoinette and Wolfgang Mozart in English, so why not make a biopic about an Englishwomen in Spanish?

All we can do is adapt the way we view this condition, not as a crime or a romantic affectation but as a disease that will kill. We need to review the way society treats addicts, not as criminals but as sick people in need of care. We need to look at the way our government funds rehabilitation. It is cheaper to rehabilitate an addict than to send them to prison, so criminalization doesn't even make economic sense. Not all of us know someone with the incredible talent that Amy had but we all know drunks and junkies and they all need help and the help is out there. All they have to do is pick up the phone and make the call. Or not. Either way, there will be a phone call."
