Singin' in the Shower!

Postby Ribbons on Sun Nov 11, 2007 3:06 am

This thread is all about one of life's simple pleasures, singing in the shower. Do you sing in the shower, or do you think it's for weirdoes? Do you have a "shower song" ("Train in Vain" by The Clash for me) or do you just sing whatever, whenever? Discuss! Please! I need this! I neeeeed this!

I will from time to time see how many songs from Blink 182's Cheshire Cat I can sing from memory before ending the scrub down. weird sure, but it passes the time, and what a beat.

Not so much since I left the UK, but I used to have a waterproof radio with suction pads in my shower. Surely a waterproof MP3 player with a speaker exists.

edit: I forgot all about the FM transmitter I bought in Oz. Must remember to bring the radio back with me.

In China I tend to shower as quickly as possible because of the irregular water supply. I've been caught out a few times by the water going off mid-shower. Luckily not while washing my hair, but being left high and dry with soapy balls isn't much fun.

in addition to the oft refrained "never whistle while your pissing" (RIP R.A.W.) , one of my (many) mantras is "never sing while shearing".

so, yes, only weirdos sing in the shower.

but if I did shower-sing?

I sing in the shower, but only if I've had a coffee or two wake up beforehand - this morning (well early this afternoon - I've got a real bad hangover) it was the modest mouse track 'fire it up'

'Fire it up,
fire it up
When we finally turn it over
Make a beeline towards the border
Have a drink, you've had enough

Fire it up,
fire it up
If you need some conversation
Bring a magazine to read around
our broke down transportation'

I think maybe it's whatever I might have been listening to the day before, just a verse or two and a chorus - I'm into the whole quick shower thing.

Weirdos don't sing in the shower - they take baths.

I don't need to sing. Whenever I get in the shower, this sexy music kicks on out of nowhere. I wish I recognized the song, have a listen:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGeoWqf44LY

But if I DID sing, it would probably be something quite trashy like Duran Duran's "Come Undone."

Weird, that exactly how I always imagined.

I'd sing in the shower, but I don't want to get my guitar wet.

I usually sing outside the shower.

But I REALLY cut loose in the car! Nothing beats driving and singing!

I sing every time I shower, but the song I sing changes per the mood I'm in. Hell, I sing in the car, at work, and when I am doing anything else that I may be doing. I just love to sing. The songs are never the same. Country, the latest pop song, my current broadway addiction, 80s music... I love it all.

I refuse to click this link on the grounds that it may lead to emotional distress in the form of an unwanted song on endless replay in my head.

Whatever you do, DO NOT THINK ABOUT THAT SONG!!! You know the one I mean. Yes, THAT one. The one that will get stuck in your head if you even think about it for ONE SECOND. Drive it from your mind entirely! Or it will take over your soul! That's right ... keep that rhythm, that melody out of your head ... wait, was that a snatch of the chorus?? KEEP IT OUT!!

DO NOT THINK ABOUT THAT SONG!!!

(If you're thinking about the song by now, you're hopeless ...)

Yes. Usually improv riff on existing songs, and create the awesome sound equivilent of a cat stepping on a barbwire baseball bat and then screaming in blue-murder agony.

The sound hole on the acoustic would let all the water in though.

Maybe you'd benefit from the same setup as the guitarist in this video.

Wireless systems are the way to go, just don't use them near an air force base.

Maybe you'd benefit from the same setup as the guitarist in this video.

What I'd benefit from is leaving my guitar outside the shower. Or playing the cheapest guitar ever built.

Or putting it in a plastic garbage bag and playing it through the bag, so to speak. Though that might be awkward. But it might be possible! Stupid, but possible ...

Or better yet, just not bothering and having a beer instead.

Of course! Besides singing, though, I get my best talking-to-myself done in there, too. Got a problem that needs working out? Go talk it out in the shower.

Standing in the shower thinking
About what makes a man
An outlaw or a leader
I'm thinking about power...
The ways a man could use it
Or be destroyed by it
The water hits my neck
And I'm pissing on myself...

Standing
In the shower
Thinking...

Standing in the shower thinking
About a man I know don't like me
He don't like the place I'm headed
Same place he's headed...
I know he'd beat me to it
If he could but he won't do it
But he would man
If he could...
And the water is piping hot..
The water is piping hot
It beats upon my neck
And I'm pissing on myself...

Standing
In the shower
Thinking...

Standing in the shower thinking
Is my woman afraid of me?
She's seen how far I've twisted
It's just cause I can trust her
And ever since we met
She understood so she let
Me twist her good...
I twist her good...
And the water is piping hot
The water is piping hot
It beats upon my neck
And I'm pissing on myself...

Standing
In the shower
Thinking...

Lately, I keep singing "The Lonely Goatherd" from The Sound of Music in the shower.

I wish I were kidding.

Uh oh. Are you one of those guys who waits until the mountains on the label turn blue before you drink your beer? 'Cause those guys are the most pathetic guys on the planet. "But I CAN'T drink my beer! The mountains aren't blue! Don't you understand the RISKS involved?"

Putzes.

Well... not really... I don't even know what the fuck you're talking about. However, I am more of a hard liquor guy than a beer guy. Beer makes me all gassy. I am more of a whiskey guy.

Usually sing Johnny Cash, Bobby Darin or Frank Sinatra tunes because of the acoustics and the key of the songs.

Interesting thread, BTW.
