I nominate Menomena - Friend And Foe for best Album

Justice Vs Simian - We Are Your Friends for Single

I'll have to have a good think about the rest.

Oh, yeh, actually you are probably right there tape. I had thought the simian mix was this year but I could very behind on this one.

Albums this year, for me, have been:
- Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace
- Kings of Leon - Because of the Times
- Motion City Soundtrack - Even If It Kills Me
- Rilo Kiley - Under The Blacklight
- Travis - The Boy With No Name
- Jack Penate - Matinee
- Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
- Biffy Clyro - Puzzle

It's been decent, however it's also been a year with some disappointments though.

It will take a little while for me to get my noms together - I mean just this week I've been listening to Siouxsie Sioux's 'Mantaray' and Ween's 'La Cucharaca' and thinking they were pretty good - so many geat albums this year.

going by my music journal (unless Ghostface and/or Wu-Tang's latest and/or some others I haven't given a proper listen to yet surprise me) favorite albums of 2k7 is between LCD Soundsystem's Sound of Silver and Okkervil River's The Stage Names.

I can't even begin to properly tabulate my favorite track yet, as I've got well over 50 2007 with ***** ratings. Narrowing that down's gonna be a bitch!

Live Act is easily The Arcade Fire. Heard GREAT things about Daft Punk live, but, alas, haven't had the pleasure.

Music Video, I'll co-sign on Vegeta's nom of "1,2,3,4" and my personal fave, "Sirens" by Dizzee Rascal, but I'm rather out of the loop when it comes to music vids.

Can Grinderman be considered Best New Act?

gotta think about the other categories a bit...

I was nearer the 9.1 mark. But I think Menomena was a little too hasty. Sound Of Silver is fantastically good. I'm also thinking about Random Spirit Lover and Armchair Apocrypha

some good tracks and EP's (Los Campesinos! may be in the running then), but full albums, not so much...

I think you can definitely consider 'Grinderman' as best new act, I was thinking maybe New Young Pony Club and Bonde Do Role too, although they had singles and ep's released last year (does that count them out?) - with the former, they're a bit hard to find...

Anyone heard of Vietnam? I first heard them playing live on my local radio station and fell a little in love with the trippy guitar sound and lead singer's Bob Dylan-esque vocals. I'm also pretty sure it's one of those love it or hate it things, but I'd nominate "Apocalypse" as Best New Song.

Oh wait...that's not a category. well, i'd nominate it for something.

Bonde Do Role
Car Stereo (Wars)
High Places
Los Campesinos!
Marnie Stern
Mixtapes and Cellmates
New Young Pony Club
Ola Podrida
Saturday Knights
Softlightes

I'd offer up these bands for consideration.

Was Muscles new this yr? If so they could be added to the list.

Grinderman was was a cool new act, but it's Nick Cave and he already has tons of fans so I wanted to give credit to lesser known acts.

Best Album: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver (although I quite like 45:33 which I think was released here this year. Don't listen to it nearly as much, though).

Runner-up: Liars - Liars

Best Track: Espers - Widow's Weed. EDIT: Just got PM'd this was 2006. Still keeping it up though. Love this band.

Best Solo Act: Not entirely sure what this means. I'll go with Richard Thompson, who got an album out this year.

Best New Act: Grinderman (they count)

Best Live Act: The Fall

Yeah, it's one of my ten best of the year for sure. If it were not for Brock I never would have discovered Burial. So thanks Brock, wherever the fuck you are.... :(

Someone needs to make an excellent new sci-fi noir movie, just so Burial can soundtrack it.

Best Album: Sounds of Silver. LCD Soundsystem (I'm kinda surprised we don't have a thread for this group / James Murphy / DFA, there's a lot of fans here)

Runners up: None Shall Pass (Aesop Rock), In Rainbows (radiohead), Grinderman (Grinderman), 23 (blonde redhead), Neon Bible (Arcade Fire), Mirrored (Battles), Beyond (Dinosaur Jr), Maths + English (Dizzee Rascal), Myths of the near future (Klaxons), Fantastic Playroom (NYPC), White Chalk (PJ Harvey), Hey Venus (Super Furry Animals), Structure and Cosmetics (The Brunettes), Oblivion with Bells (Underworld), Untrue (Burial)... it really has been a good year, but I'll stop now.

Best Track: No Pussy Blues. Grinderman - a very subjective choice for me.

Best Band/Group Act: Battles - can't wait to hear where they will take their sound next

Best Solo Act: Muscles - this guy is to house what Murphy is to 'dance punk/electro', at least on the strength of his first album and live show (which I should have written something about). Dude has been the support for Daft Punk for quite a while now too.

Best New Act: Grinderman
Runner Up: New Young Pony Club, The Long Blondes, Klaxons, Bonde de Role.

Best Live Act: Fuck it, I saw Boris play live this year, and although I caught Grinderman too, I've seen Cave before, so Boris wins - the experience goes far beyond what you get from listening to their albums. Like KC, I suspect I'd love Daft Punk judging by the reactions I've read to their shows. Also, with Live shows, so much depends on the night that you're having before and after.

Best Music Video: I like the Feist vid from the ipod commercials too, and honestly nothing else occured to me off-hand. If I manage to dredge something up from the depths I might change this one.

I liked it more, frankly. I think their sound has gotten a little more sophisticated and elegantly produced. Perhaps you liked the raw quality more on Howl, but their refinement here, was brilliant, imo.

My favourite album would likely be...

Land of Talk - Applause, Boo, Cheer, Hiss

Yet, I couldn't honestly say it's the best and admitt I'm a little behind with some of the the other more noted contenders. So I'll suffer for the cause and catch up a little before I throw that down, I think.

With regards to videos, Fiest's had a lot more charm when it first rolled around, for me. It doesn't seem quite charming this far down the line. Maybe I'm just shallower than I would care to think and since it's been iPopularised, perhaps it's lost a little something. Hmm. Still playing her records however.

There's always more, but some videos that have stuck in my mind, if nothing else:

Bat for Lashes - What's A Girl To Do

Jarvis - Don't Let Him Waste Your Time

Holy Hail - Cool Town Rock

I only saw it recently, yet I think my actual favourite for the year may well be...

Los Campesinos - You! Me! Dancing!

HA! Cute!

Love that song, and that vid was the jauntiest apocalypse, like, ever.
Personally, I'm an atheist in the voting booth and a theist in the movie theatre. I separate the morality of religion with the spirituality and solace of it. There is something boring about atheism.

I'm also pretty sure it's one of those love it or hate it things, but I'd nominate "Apocalypse" as Best New Song.

Oh wait...that's not a category. well, i'd nominate it for something.

That'd be "Best Track". I've not heard of Vietnam, but based on the description, I'd probably dig it. I'll have to search! Thanks Dale.

Dale check out Brighton, MA as well it sounds like what you are describing.

Great recommendation, stereos. I downloaded it today and have been listening to it all the while zoning. Track 2 is especially delectable. Pretty, upbeat guitar picking is always utterly listen-able. And it does sound a little like Vietnam, the singer eerily so actually. VietNam might just take it a little further on the instrumental.

I loved Vietnam at first but now it's an instant *skip* on my iPod. The leader singer is just too fucking whiny.

Yeah I can definitely see how it would grate on you. It truly is a love it or hate it band. Honestly, months later and I still haven't gotten tired of it. It sounds weird but "Apocalypse" turns me on the way I thought only "Hey Joe" could.

I'm not quite hip enough to be in this thread, but it seems the following deserve a mention:

Best Album:
Explosions in the Sky, "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone"
Dethklok, "The Dethalbum"
Hot Hot Heat, "Happiness Ltd."

Best Music Video:
Foo Fighters, "The Pretender"

Best Live Act:
Although I'm not a huge fan of the band, Mindless Self Indulgence is a ton of fun live.
