Okay kids, here be the thread to talk about music that makes you shiver, gives you the willies, etc...etc...

I'm not talking about music that you dislike, for that see the corresponding Nickelback Bitches!!!!! thread (sorry, junesquad ), but rather the music that wouldn't be out of place as you walk through a New Orleans cemetery in the dead of night, see a man's skin melt off in a nightmare, or anything gruesome/creepy/fucked up more twisted minds than mine could conceive of.

As I mentioned in the Is there a Insert Thread Name Here thread, Aphex Twin does it for me a lot. Icct Hedral particularly, although "Curtains" also has a spine tingling quality to it, quite unsettling. There's also a Turkish electronica band called Ventochild that makes me reach for my teddy bear when I hear them.

...but that's just me.

For some reason I've always been really creeped out by "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" by Eurythmics. Lennox's somewhat strange (but cool) voice combined with that signature tune in the background...

Really? I always thought he was a cheap knock-off of Andrew Eldritch from The Sisters of Mercy. Listen to anything off of "Floodland" and you'll see what I mean.

As far as creepy songs go, at the end of My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult's "A Daisy Chain 4 Satan" there's a creepy passage from a movie that makes the unsettling song even more so, where the guy is calling "Joan? Jooooaaaannnn.... first I'm gonna find you... then I'm going to kill you."

That's always creeps me out. But I love the song.

To be honest, I usually disconnect to some degree from the willfully w13rd. It's like they sacrficie some degree of self-awareness by claiming they have extra oodles of it to share with the rest of us...

Yet...on that kind of score, Tony and I would probably fall overselves to mention at least something from these guys...

The Cure - Pornography. I've been to Crawley where Robert Smith was born, and it's pretty easy to see how such a drab, colourless town could have inspired this record. Capital Punishment, Questions of Mortality and Stalking abound!

Nick Drake - Pink Moon. "Please beware of them that stare, they'll only smile to watch you while your time away". Pretty much a suicide note with chords.

Throbbing Gristle - DOA/The Third & Final Report of Throbbing Gristle. Dark, stark industrial music, replete with songs about burn victims (Hamburger Lady) and a song compiled from answer phone messages left by psychotic fans (Death Threats).

Special mentions go to: Autechre, Peter Hammill, This Heat and Bauhaus.

Most recent 'creepy' song that I've been listening to a lot of is "Black Mirror" by the Arcade Fire. It has an apocalyptic vibe to it that, combined with Win Butler's voice, gives me the willies. But in a weird way I actually like listening to it every now and then; there are days where everything just feels ominous and throwing it on makes me less creeped out.

Evil Nine - Devil Stuff

Pure slice of being trailed by a hoard of the undead. Wears its Romero influences on its sleeves, and its a cracking instrumental.

I recommend the album, you can be special too, but for me this is the standout track.

Also, the theme from Assault on precinct 13 (original) is fun to listen to while walking dark dingy streets late at night. Had me kackin my pants.

'The Intense Humming Of Evil' by Manic Street Preachers should give you shivers. Unless creepy, aggressively slow rock music about concentration camps is the sort of thing that brightens your day.

I was wondering where to post this, and this seemed as good a place as any.

I've been trawling the web for free audio Lovecraft, and recently discovered this college radio Halloween chiller triple:

The whole thing runs about an hour and a half, and the stories on it are actually pretty good, if you're into that kind of thing

Anyway, near the end, at 1:31:00, the DJ signs off with this really cool and creepy bit of delta blues as his Halloween theme, and mentions a name, either the title or the band, at the end, but I can't make out what it is. Could anyone offer a second opinion?
