No more than it deserved and it only scored that highly because of the soundtrack.

It did at times seem like a wilfully fey, independent movie spoof. And it often came across like Napoleon Dynamite but with the timing all off. Still, I'd generally agree with tapehead when he wrote this:tapehead wrote:Both the leads are probably close to thirty but playing eternal teenagers, troubled and kind of damaged and never quite getting beyond dorky adolescence. I don't know if I'd call it a minor gem, but there were enough sweet moments to justify watching it (Lily taking Jarrod's wheelchair-bound dad for a walk). I guess I can understand how it could really piss someone off though, especially scenes like that stop-motion sleeping bag caterpillar crawl and the final fight played out in agonisingly slow motion.
I've gotta say, the girl who plays Lily, Loren Horsley, is nothing short of stunning! Maybe not to everyone's taste, but that just means I've got better odds of making her mine!

BWAHAHAHAHA Indeed. Indeed.
I think I called it a neo-con fever dream, myself.
And this is from the director now signed on to Watchmen![]()

What did you think of Electroma? Missed your thoughts ( if you typed any out...)

with the amount of pop-culture you voraciously consume, I'm stumped for reasons as well...

Never typed anything out on it, but I really thought it was beautiffully strange and hypnotic. There are some amazing sequences in the film, including the ending. I was amazed by the amount of symbolism and thought went into the film becuase it was defintiely was not what I expected. In the end I had trouble coming up with reasons why I was not a robot.
I liked 5x2, byu the way and thought it was a really interesting way to frame a relationship. I had recently gone through a break-up at that point so it really hit close to home.

I dont know if I should be offended by that remark or not

Thanks for the Electroma thoughts. Great film, great director - I hope Thomas has some more up his sleeve for us at some point. Has any other zoner witnessed this gem?

Keepcool, it means you would probably lose your top of page 2 spot if I delete first page posts (among which are your own posts). Do I hear a yay or a nay?

ThisIsTheGirl wrote:Or we could go with a totally new thread for discussions, but that might be overkill.
Maybe we could have a cut-off point for people to book their journal spots in this thread, and any posts after that point could be solely for discussion.
ThisIsTheGirl wrote:I'm sure we went through all of this with the previous journal so I didn't think we'd have the same problem again this time round - but for the record, I think we should also have a rule that if you neglect to update your list within, say, 3 months, it gets deleted. Maybe that's a bit militant but there were a helluva lot of people in the last thread who gave up after about a month. It's fair enough if you can't find the time to keep your list updated, but I reckon we should keep this thread for the folks who can - thoughts?.

thomasgaffney wrote:So you're going to what? Fault people for making an attempt? And if life happens to interfere with their ability to watch and review movies, they're going to be wiped out with no trace that they ever existed? What if they have some kick-ass review of a little-seen movie in their two month window? You're just going to erase all that? What if they update their list for Jan and Feb, can't for the next 5 months, but come back in August to take their journal up again only to find it all deleted? Maybe they'll never want to participate again...
TonyWilson wrote:Well I've already made a much better start than I did lat year. But I say go for it when it comes ot deleting non-journal posts, it's not like anything important is really eing said. If we allow random movie discussion in this thread to go on then it just becomes another random movie discussion thread with a list on the fron page and we have a random movie review thread already.
