Sorry if this is a dupe thread. Had a look but couldn't find anything like it. And as we know, the search function is almost perfect.

Anyway, I was listening to the Vampyros Lesbos earlier. I saw the movie a few years back and didn't think much of it, but the soundtrack kicked ass.

So, the question is, what other soundtracks do people think are better than the movies they appear in?

Ennio Morricone's score for The Exorcist II was far, far superior to the movie.

I guess he didn't say to himself, "OK, I'm gonna hold back a here from a the greatness because a the movie, she's a bound to be awful."

Take a listen to Magic & Ecstasy if you don't believe me. It's not a Man With No Name score, but it's really weird psychedelic rock music which was wasted on the movie.

Also, I really adore Regan's Theme.

Well, I liked the music in "Phantom of the Paradise", yet hope that when the in development remake rolls around, the film will at least use elements from the original story. (And probably will have to drop the comparison to Phil Spector...)

And not have a Phantom that can't sing or doesn't look conspicuous in a Gatchaman outfit.

You take away the soundtrack to that movie and it's just another run-of-the-mill cheesy sci-fi film.

Queen really made that something special.

The Mothman Prophecies - the theme by Low and Tomandandy is superb and it's actually a double-album of score and a superb standalone one by atmospheric prog/electronica group King Black Acid.

Velvet Goldmine. The movie's decent, but I can listen to the soundtrack over and over and over...

Oh, and The Crow: City of Angels. Niether the movie nor the soundtrack are as good as the originals, but at least the soundtrack doesn't have a horrible storyline. Plus, it's got Iggy Pop doing "I Wanna Be Your Dog" live!
