I'd have to say poster 2. I still dislike the stress on Portman's shaved head, and in two of the posters she's clearly posing, for heaven's sake, but it's the most interesting. I really wish they would remove the rioters wherever they appear, including the film, because their costumes are ridiculous and border on the impossible.

Last night while having some dessert I paged through V for Vendetta and found several interesting bits they could have used for taglines had they not been devoted to something short, snappy and inappropriate.

I didn't write them down, so I'll add them here once I'm home tonight. I do remember what I think would be the best, were it not so politically and religiously controversial given the current state of the Middle East.

I shall not cease from mental fight
nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
'til I have built Jerusalem
on England's green and pleasant land.

--William Blake, "Jerusalem"

Pretty well sums it up for me.

Can we also edit the topic so it reads "their polls" instead of "thier poles"?

Holy shit is Jerusalem a great hymn....

One of my all time favorites.

And Dennis, I think that was a little bit of punnage on Flumm's part.

It's fantastic stuff. And V recites it at the very beginning. It sets the mood as he sets off his first bomb!

With the state of webspeak, I can never tell. <hangs head in shame>

Thank you, Adam. Sorry, Flumm.

Poster two is the best by a long way.........
Does anyone know if they have all been done by the same artist?...........
I'd like to think that they gave four people the chance to shine.............

I have to agree and say that, in their current form, poster 2 is my favourite. But I also have to agree that I think the decision to put Portman o the poster was a bad one, and it's a sad testament to the importance of marketing departments that she simply has <i>got</i> to be on the poster. You can just imagine the meetings:

"How about a poster showing just the mask?"
"Natalie Portman is in this movie. Natalie Portman is going on the poster"
"OK, let's have the rest of the day off"

In fact, if you removed Portman from all the other posters, I might actually like 3 the best, and even 4 has some cool elements, like the Westminster skyline. But on the whole, I agree: they are definitely a better standard than most movie posters you see nowadays.

Ah screw it, I'm voting Kong

IPAMPILASH

There was a time when a comment like that would be followed a hour or so later by a photoshopped version of the poster featuring the very simian. Alas, I know as much about Photoshop as I know about Indonesian Foreign Policy, which is nothing!

If I still had Photoshop, the pleasure would have been all mine.......... Ironically I got rid of it a few weeks before I discovered the zone, to free up some space on my mac......Bummer, I may have to get it put back on............

If you have Photoshop skills, you can make friends and influence people very quickly in this place.

I highly recommend you put it back on your computer if you do!

I went with 3, to me it's the most artistic poster, but it invokes some eastern bloc country circa 1963. Which doesn't really have that much to do with the film as I understand it. They are facists more like National Socialists and not Communists right? i think it's the typeface, specifically on the "E"'s and on "17", very cyrillic.
Elitism is positing that your taste is equivalent to quality, you hate "Hamlet" does it make it "bad"? If you think so, you're one elite motherfucker.

Yes, Tony, NorseFire (in the comics) is very specifically based on the homegrown English fascist groups, from Mosley's British Union of Fascists to National Front and its offshoots, some barely disguising support of the Final Solution.

From Wikipedia, the BUF anthem:

Comrades: the voices of the dead battalions
Of those who fell that Britain might be great
Join in our song, for they still march in spirit with us
And urge us on to win the Fascist State!

We're of their blood, and spirit of their spirit,
Sprung from the soil for whose dear sake they bled
'Gainst vested powers, Red Front, and massed ranks of reaction
We lead the fight for freedom and for bread!

The streets are still, the final struggle's ended;
Flushed with the fight we proudly hail the dawn!
See, over all the streets the Fascist banners waving -
Triumphant standards of a race reborn!

Damn you for pulling out that poster. I get drunk and get one lousy giant swastika tattoo and it dogs me the rest of my fucking life.

Could anyone with PS skills perhaps erase the swastika and replace it with V's inverted anarchy symbol? If so, I'd truly appreciate it. Perhaps the title could be "American Anarchy V." The typeface doesn't have to match, I wouldn't think.

It should probably be British Anarchy V. Unless you're just talking about yourself or whatever.

It's my face! Unless someone wants to build the Guy Fawkes mask out of my face. My eyes are really slitty there, so they might work, and the beard and mustache could be erased into appropriate shapes, couldn't they? Drop the glasses and pinch the mouth and it's DV!

It would be a ridiculous amount of work and I don't suggest anyone try it.
