What director from days gone by would you like to see making films today? How do you think they would feel about using modern effects, or shooting on digital? And in many countries, censorship laws are much more relaxed than in days gone by, so how would they respond to that?

See, I was kind of hoping people would bring up directors I've never heard of before. Would you care to elaborate on how his work might be different under today's film making environment?
imdb biography wrote:It is, however, his most recent film, Yi Yi (2000), that is considered his magnum opus, an epic story about the Jian family seen through their different perspectives. The three-hour masterwork begins with a wedding, ends with a funeral, and examines all areas of human life in a variety of interesting, artistic ways. He has also collaborated with fellow auteur, novelist, and screenwriter Nien-Jen Wu on the piece, casting him as one of the leads, NJ. Yang's filmmaking style looks at the uncertain future of modernizing Taiwan in an enlightening manner, and his vision is one of the most original operating in world cinema today.

Who else?
I dunno
Chaplin, D.W. Griffith, David Lean, Akira Kurosawa, Sergio Leone

Probably jump off a bridge.

Sure, he wasn't a Hitchcock or a Welles, but I tend to feel like they still have a great deal of influence on directors today.
What Henson had was the imagination to create something fantastic, and the ability to bring it to life with fabric and fur.
I'd love to see where his creature shop would be now with his imagination and talent still at the helm.

Speaking of big, as in bodacious ta-tas, hasn't anybody mentioned Russ Meyer yet?

As far as Ford's Wayne goes, maybe Kevin Costner?

I thought of that too, but he's a previous generation's Wayne. We need a modern Wayne. Unfortunately, we're stuck with Johnny Depp.
Wayne was your basic big, square-jawed All American. And he wasn't a very good actor. Maybe Bruce Campbell can take his place.

See that's anotehr reason I mentioned DeMille.
Imagine what HE would have done with Robocop - he would have put him back in the Biblical times and it would have been epic beyond anyone's imagination!
