I can, but every time I suggest getting rid of a few word filters everyone yells at me.

Why not HP for Grande Rojo Potter?
Can't really think of a word with that combo.

But are word filters recursive? If you type HP and the filters change it to Harry Potter, would the filter kick in again?

So far Valve, Bethesda, Rockstar, and Eidos are on my list.
The worst part about Rockstar and Eidos is without the PS brand nobody would give half a shit who they are or what they did. Sony offered a platform to make their games on when everyone else said no and wouldn't license to them.
Valve is to busy riding their high horse paid for by Microsoft to bother to even develop for a system that while it may be behind is selling at a faster rate than 360 so eventually will be right up with the 360 install base (which is greatly over-inflated due to broken consoles and multiple purchases by the xbots who in the face of failing hardware kept bending over...).

Tomb raider Came out on the Saturn first, then the Pc, then the playstation.
It was also made by Core.
There were mission packs available for the pc back in the day for TR1, i dunno about the rest of the series.
Nobody really complained then, but i'm sure you could interpret it as MS forcefully dominating &/or monopolizing the pc gaming market.
Eidos were huge because they bought out companies like Domark, Big Red & US Gold (remember them? fucking huge publisher back in the day, in the UK anyway, had their name on just about every Master System game i owned, not to mention tons of C64 games).
Back in the day, Eidos were kinda like EA.

Strange though.
I don't see anyone in this thread complaining about the lack of Steam on Macs.

Remember back in the day when magazines would print cheat codes for games?
Or one of your friends would tell you about "up, down, left, right, start" for sonic?
Ever hear about the Contra Code?
None of that really exists on the current generation consoles because developers can make cash on the fly from lazy gamers instead.
It's still a step above the bullshit Namco pulled, doesn't mean it's a ladder worth climbing though.
Companies are in a habit of making money.
Chances are, if MS didn't fork over the cash for exclusivity, Sony would've.
Sony had a lot of exclusive third party games back in the day, do you guys think that was just companies being nice to them?

The only complaints so far, to my recollection, have been about Left 4 Dead because of the new engine which they had problems with porting.

Yes but most online software is 'subject to change' so if you don't own a disc, you could lose the lot. Something which annoys me. I'd prefer to own a disc as I know I CAN always install it on something (without some sort of Individualistic number being read or installed on my machine which means I can't play it on a laptop I OWN or any other machine I own (( at this point, I'll bless STEAM as I can play it anywhere on any machine capable, ANY game I have paid for))King Of Nowhere wrote:DLC isn't bonus content, it's an ad-on to an already complete game.

And KON comes to a close with such a lovely statment there. Perfectly sums up the Console market. It's getting harder to diversify so they vehemently protect their product (or portion of) as much as possilbe.
But, the only bonus there is that PS3 allows you to buy games, DLC in cash, and the internet connection is free.
Failing that, PC rules and consoles dool, Mofo's.

Its coming to pc too, according to the title screen on the link. So no console necessary. I imagine that such a simple game will run on pretty much any pc.

See, even if it is something simple like outfits for Laura, well my girlfriend loves Tomb Raider and I got her the new one for Chirstmas. So she would buy and like those DLC items but because we chose Sony (the platform that made TR famous, PC gaming and the Saturn did not bring TR to the masses, sorry) we're assed out.
GTAIV though... fuck R*. This is the reason I did an extended rental of their buggy ass game and didn't buy it. If it was timed exclusive like Sony had last gen, It would be different. While I might have to wait, I'd still get the opertunity to continue with extra content. But cutting out half your market from continued content will backfire next time they release a game. I have already decided to pass on GTA whatever because obviously they don't need my cash Microsoft had plenty for them.
If it was due to technical restraints I'd even give it a pass. But seeing as how R* had to scale back production on GTA4 because of 360's limitations it's fairly shit that not only did I get a gimped game, but 360 gets rewarded for it...
I'm glad I passed on Fallout 3 to wait for Killzone 2 for the same reason. Why spend the same ammount as a 360 player for a gimped version of the game and then months later be slapped in the face by Bethesda just because I bought their software for the wrong console according to them.
The Valve thing though, it has nothing to do with difficulty and a whole lot to do with payola. They got away with the "but it's sooooooooooo haaaaaaaard to program for PS3..." at launch, but when games like Burnout Paradise, Resistance 1&2, Uncharted 1&2, Killzone 2, Ratchet & Clank, Little Big Planet, etc come out and make the system shine and Burnout was multiplatform I have to call bullshit.
The worst part though is your live subscription is what allows MS to pay off developers for exclusives, which would be one thing if you got it for free, but they make you pay for it. Double dipping... Now that's thinking customers first!

Has a good stand-alone Wolverine game finally been made? I tried out an early hands-on demo tonight of X-Men Origins: Wolverine at Activision's pre-New York Comic Con press event to find out.
What It Is
X-Men Origins: Wolverine is an action game based off the upcoming movie developed by Raven Software, which brought you Quake 4 and Soldier Of Fortune. The story focuses on the X-Men character Wolverine before and after he's given his adamantium skeleton. I found the gameplay closely resembled God of War, surprisingly. You'll be involved in plenty of tight, close-combat battles, as well as many platforming and playable, cinematic sequences.
What We Saw
I demoed the first level of the game at an Activision party for the Xbox 360. I spent about 20 minutes playing before I kindly passed the controller on to someone else. The level mainly took place in a jungle setting filled with various soldiers equipped with guns and swords.
What Needs Improvement
While the jungle environment looked very robust, it was at times a bit too linear. I felt I was always going on straight path. This was the opening tutorial level, though, so perhaps the later levels get a bit more exploratory.
I would also like to see more destructible environmental elements. The only breakable items seem to be clay pots.
What Should Stay The Same
The grotesque violence. Seriously. I wasn't the only person there that was stunned at the amount of sheer brutality in this game. Normally, we don't really see Wolverine hack and slash people to pieces, usually just a punch to the gut with little to no blood. The opening CGI movie and the following gameplay, however, were almost disturbing. The Activision rep proclaimed this to be the way fans wanted to see Wolverine. Well, you guys got your wish. Prepare for a bloodbath!
I also loved the leaping control. Being able to jump on an on-coming enemy and immediately start stabbing their guts felt very satisfying every time.
Final Thoughts
This game has as much over-the-top violence as something like MadWorld. Wolverine uppercuts heads off torsos, jams enemies into the blades of helicopters. and even throws bodies onto spikes coming out of the floor. I know most movie-licensed games aren't very good, but this could one game that everyone will be talking about, even if it's because of the violence.
Oh dear. Here we were, all excited at the prospect of playing Vampyre Story - by ex-Lucasarts man Bill Tiller - and then we went and forgot all about it. Lucky TIGS reminded us.
Because the game is now out! You can pick it up over on Amazon. To remind you why we're reminding you of this, this is a point-and-click adventure game, developed by a company founded by a man who pulled art duties on Monkey Island and The Dig.
