I was a bit disappointed with the new Doctor Who show. I felt that it was very 'chav' Brit and lacking in qualities that will easily carry abroad (try to understand half of what Eccleston's soccer hooligan portrayal of The Doctor is saying!!)
It is also obviously shot on digibeta video with a film effect, so I can understand why the US networks have passed on it - it looks cheap compared with modern American shows!
If the BBC, knowing how popular the show is in Britain, tweaked it ever so slightly - casting the very-talented David Tennant as Eccleston's replacement is a good start - and started shooting it on high definition video they could have a bigger international hit in the English-speaking world!
In fairness, several episodes showed a lot of potential and I can give what is, in effect, a first season a lot of benefit of the doubt. I'll look forward to season two with interest!
Curiously, the new show has revived a lot of my interest in the original show. I won't be buying the Eccleston season, but I'll definitely be buying the BBC's The Beginning set which contains restored versions of the 1963 original episodes.
Oh and please don't descend on me with the Wrath of God/RTD if you disagree with my opinion of the new show! I'm well aware that hell hath no fury like an RTD fan disagreed with and I don't hate it or anything!!!!
