Indeed Dale. I of course picked that little quote cause of his upcoming Wolf Man remake. Neat foreshadowing, eh?

Also, bastardrobo, I think the line is:

"Did you see what Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahd just did to us man?"

Correct pronunciation if nothing else.

From Caddyshack:

Sandy [Scottish brougue]: Carl I want you to kill all the gophers on the golf course

Carl: Correct me if I'm wrong Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers they'll lock me up and throw away the key.

Sandy: Not golfers, you great git! Gophers, the little brown, furry rodents!

I've discovered possibly the most quotable film of all time, The Naked Civil Servant, the biopic on Quentin Crisp, one of Britain's most flamboyant homosexuals during the period when homosexuality was illegal, starring John Hurt.

Don't believe me? Well feast your eyes on these Oscar Wildeisms:

Health consists of having the same diseases as one's neighbors.

When the war was declared, I bought two pounds of henna.

i don't believe in abroad- they're such cheats. I suspect they speak English behind our backs when we're not looking.

Young Queer-baiter: See that copper over there? If you don't give us a quid each, right? I'm gonna tell him you been fiddling with these two.
Quentin Crisp: I defy you to do your worst. It can hardly be my worst. Mine has already and often happened to me. You cannot touch me now. I am one of the "stately homos of England".

Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag them down to your level instead - it's cheaper.

Of course I lie to people. But I lie altruistically - for our mutual good. The lie is the basic building block of good manners. That may seem mildly shocking to a moralist - but then what isn't?

An autobiography is an obituary in serial form with the last instalment missing.

Sex is the last refuge of the miserable.

If at first you don't succeed, failure may be your style.

Did you drop the Chainsaw on her when she ran down the stairs than in a Christian Bale American Psycho way shout out ' BAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!' when it landed on her? Dropping chainsaws on a girl - it always goes down well.

I use that line all the time. I always figured it would probably work better if I were female, but I carried on using it anyway. I never thought about changing the "me" to a "you." This just opened up a whole world of possibilities.

One of the best rants in movie history courtesy of Bob Hoskins at the end of The Long Good Friday, painfully transcribed by yours truly because I couldn't find it online:

"I'll tell you something... I'm glad I found out in time just what a partnership with a pair of wankers like you would have been. A sleeping partner's one thing, but you're in a fucking coma! No wonder you've got an energy crisis your side of the water. But us British, we're used to a bit more vitality, imagination, touch of the Dunkirk spirit. Know what I mean? The days when Yanks could come over here and buy up Nelson's Column and an Harley Street surgeon and a couple of Windmill Girls are definitely over."

"Now look-"

"Shut up, you long streak of paralysed piss. What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius- a little bit more than an 'otdog, know what I mean? We're in the common market now and my new deal is with Europe. I'm going into partnership with a German organization. Yeah- the Krauts! They've got ambition, know-how, and they don't lose their bottle. Look at you... The Mafia? I've shit 'em."

Re: Favorite Movie Quotes

Postby Jabbadonut on Fri Feb 19, 2010 3:51 pm

There are several film lines that resonate within me.
My favorites:
The Maltese Falcon. The police inspector: "What is this thing, anyway?"
Humphrey Bogart: "That's the stuff dreams are made of."
(I may not be quoting 100% accurately, it has been awhile since I've seen that movie)

A Hard Days Night:
Person at press party: "Are you a Mod, or a Rocker?"
Ringo Starr: "Neither, I'm a Mocker"

And my current favorite:
From Kung Fu Panda:
Tai Leung (the snow leopard):
"You can't defeat me, you're just a big studly panda!"
Po the panda: "I'm not a big studly Panda, I'm THE big studly panda!"

"

I get the inclusion of the first two quotes. They've always been a couple of my favourite lines as well (although technically "the stuff that dreams are made of" is a Shakespeare quote), but is that line from Kung Fu Panda really, really your favourite piece of dialogue in the history of all movies, just because Panda used the word "The"?

What the hell? The quote that I typed was big
F A T
Panda, not "studly." I've never used that word in my life. How did that get changed in my post?

And, yes, that is one of my favorite quotes as of today (tomorrow? who knows?). Another quote from Kung Fu Panda that is truly inspiring to me is when Po understands the point of the Dragron Scroll. "There is no secret ingredient." That is profound and important. I love that movie

No idea, Jab Jab (that's my new nickname for you :) ). It's never done that before. Let me try it now: fat.

EDIT: It didn't change the word for me.

My guess is it only does it to people with under 200 posts. Keep on posting and maybe you'll be able to get rid of it. Must be pretty annoying, eh?

As for the quote:

"We're dicks! We're reckless, arrogant, stupid dicks. And the Film Actors Guild are pussies. And Kim Jong Il is an asshole. Pussies don't like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes: assholes that just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way. But the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is: they fuck too much or fuck when it isn't appropriate - and it takes a pussy to show them that. But sometimes, pussies can be so full of shit that they become assholes themselves... because pussies are an inch and half away from ass holes. I don't know much about this crazy, crazy world, but I do know this: If you don't let us fuck this asshole, we're going to have our dicks and pussies all covered in shit! "

Yeah, One, Two, Three is a seriously quotable movie. Billy Wilder was a funny fucker. You'd probably have to pause a few times to catch all the dialogue if you watched the English version- I was almost tempted to play it on half-speed myself so I didn't miss too much. Those screwball comedy scripts must have been about 500 pages long, even though the movies rarely got longer than 90 minutes.

What you've just witnessed is, in many ways, a life-sized video game. You saw a liar talk to a killer and you couldn't tell them apart. But hey, it's only television. As you may know, television programs are just the filler between attempts to steal your money. So if you want to save some, turn me off. It's a simple movement, done with the hand and what is left of your free will. The moment is now. My bet is you can't do it. But go ahead and try.
Elitism is positing that your taste is equivalent to quality, you hate "Hamlet" does it make it "bad"? If you think so, you're one elite motherfucker.

My buddy and I were constantly saying variations of this George Of The Jungle quote back in 1998, whenever some of our other friends did something stupid.

"Bad guy falls in poop: Classic element of physical comedy. Now comes the part where we throw our heads back and laugh. Ready?"
"Ready!"
"Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!"

Of course we replaced "Bad guy falls in poop" with whatever happened. (Thomas spills drink over his shirt/ Bob gets a football in his face/ Alex dies in a car crash and so on)

From Ratatouille

Anton Ego: "In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations, the new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto: Anyone can cook. But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more."
