I hope it's not one of those goddamn extended versions. If I'm going to buy this fucker I want the goddamn version I saw in theaters, the one I fucking liked. Not that KING KONG bullshit with the crap no one cares about (for most people, the entire film). Or it should come with the extended and theatrical versions and some sort of device that will give me a simulated blowjob. I will wait 'til November for that. Until then I will continue to mentally fuck Twentieth Century Fox in the ass.

I think its hilarious that Avatar was released on "Earth Day" as a tie in to its environmental message.
On a bare bones release, to be complimented with a double dip down the line. Maybe on "Wasteful plastic polluting Earth destroying day."

Im still very meh about wanting to see it again. Didnt hate it, didnt love it. Just very meh. Dont think I will be picking it up at all.

I'm with Caruso on this nonsense involving not putting all the cuts on one mega-edition. What gives? They keep trying to sell everybody on this bluray business but then they don't even do things that standard def DVDs did. My standard def Terminator 2 has like three cuts on one disc, don't tell me you couldn't put both the theatrical and extended cuts of Amadeus on one bluray, that's just lazy. I don't get it either, I mean, as far as I know the theatrical cut of Amadeus is the one that swept the Oscars and made millions of dollars, I don't know why they think nobody would want that and why they just put the director's cut out. It's also one of those easy cuts where the extended cut is just some added scenes, it's not like Apocalypse Now where they use totally different cuts of the same scenes and edit them different. But even so, I would expect an Apocalypse Now bluray to have several cuts all in one place.

The same goes for my Watchmen ultimate bluray box thing, there's like four discs in this thing and the box is huge but they couldn't put all three cuts in there?

Wasn't there an edition of Blade Runner where they put all 55 versions Ridley Scott has put together over the years on like one or two discs?

What it comes down to though, is what it always comes down to...the $$$

Man, Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier just goes to show exactly how much shit you can pack into a special edition. Probably my favorite dvd release. I'd buy the BluRay in a second with all that shit on it.

Fact: Stephen Lang can shove his arm up your ass, all the way to the elbow. And he will.

I wasn't about to fuck with that shit.

Oh, the movie is still good. Even on the small screen.

Sukiyaki Western Django

Avatar (new, for 7.99€, because Fox Germany realised that the DVD sales are going down and a bare bones edition is not worth more the €9.99. Thank you very much)

While browsing at KMart I found a 2-disc set with all four of the Burton/Schumacher Batman films. Ten bucks. Worth it to me.

I finally bought one of the most important films of my childhood and Tom Hanks greatest movie. Yes, I'm talking about The 'burbs, even if it's just a barebones release with nothing but the trailer. (I gave up all hope that we ever see a Special Edition of it, maybe even with the two alternative endings.)

You're in for a treat, Derlang! It turns out that Tom Hanks has made many, many movies, and nearly all of them are better than The 'burbs! So check 'em out!

Believe me, I know most of them, even "Mazes & Monsters" and the Tales From The Crypt episode that he directed and in which Treat Williams throws him head first into a TV set, but I don't think any of them is more successful in what they tried to achieve than The 'burbs.

Wildly under-rated, mainly because the "hero" is not a very likable guy.
But that seems more realistic to me, and points out what the nature of obsession ( ie wanting to nail his partner's killer)
can do to even the best of men. Shit, check out the last few hours of 24.

Re: The Last DVD(s) You Bought

Postby Spandau Belly on Sun May 30, 2010 3:32 pm

I bought a whole bunch of shit.

MARKED FOR DEATH bluray
Many feel this is Segal's finest film, my vote would probably go to Out For Justice, but this one would definately be up there. Seeing as after Expendables round we are doing Machete round in the Oleg Movie Club, I am pretty certain somebody will pick this one seeing as it is definately the better of the two previous films Segal and Trejo made together. Urban Justice was nothing shabby either, a good DTV.

INGLOUIOUS BASTERDS bluray
I still think this film is sloppy in ways it shouldn't be, but I can't deny its charm and its scenes of pure excellence definately outweigh the weaker stuff. The titular basterds are hugely underdeveloped and Shoshana is kinda dull, but Pitt and Waltz are fantastic and the tavern scene may be the strongest individual scene of Tarantino's career. Surprisingly, it doesn't have any of the problems typical of long-gestating projects. The other surprise weakness is that Hitler himself is actually the least entertaining and least threatening character. It was cheap, and I feel like I will probably watch this film a few more times, so I picked it up.

MAXIMUM RISK and DOUBLE TEAM double feature standard def DVD
We're watching Double Team in the Oleg Movie Club in Expendables round, so I needed to get that anyway. I remember Maximum Risk being Van Damme's classiest movie at the time, but I definately didn't see the bulk of his work because he never did all that much for me. Ringo Lam directed Max Risk, and he also made Van Damme's best DTV flick, In Hell. If you haven't seen In Hell, you should probably check it out. It's the best DTV mashup of Gladiator, the Shawshank Redemption and Alien 3 that I have seen.

Where did you find that? I'd be keen to see the DC, and at $7.50......shit, man. Why not?

there was a whole display at my Wal-Mart of $7.50 flicks and for some reason some good horror stuff, including BotW

There is some genuine gold in those $7.50 displays. But don't take my word for it. I am a Wal-Mart drone after all.

I just picked up quite a bargain. In the trade in section of a videogame store in town, they had a Luc Besson box set.

It contained:

Leon
Nikita
The Fifth Element
The Big Blue
Atlantis (?)
Subway
Les Derniers combat

and all for approx £10 ($15) which is a pretty good price I reckon. And I also picked up some Denzel goodness in Fallen, I just love that movie. Was also quite cheap.
...and so forth.

I've always wanted to see Les Derniers combat, but never got round to it, I don't know Atlantis either, and I don't think The Big Blue is a sublime work of genius BUT it just has something about it that always makes me want to watch it, that Serra soundtrack that's just soo different, Jean Reno, the stuff shot in Greece, the fact that the lead prefers Dolphins to women and also that it has a version longe and was one of the first films to ever do that. Pulls me in everytime. Curses! Now I've had to put it on...
