Unlike Flashforward, The Event was over all rather dull from the pilot. Flashforward had at least shown a modicum of promise early on...
None of the characters are appealing, none of the actors are very charismatic or have much presence. Everyone looks so generic and the performances are totally unconvincing. That this show is riding the coat tails of two recent failures Flashforward and V does not bode well... it's like the producers are just going down the list of sci-fi-type of shows, green-lighting them one at a time hoping that one of them will stick soon.
The flashbacks are completely nonsensical, it's clear that no thought whatsoever was put into their use: they are not very helpful, they are distracting, and they are impossible to follow... contrasting to the Lost flashback, which were used to gradually reveal the characters without regard for any timeline, in The Event flashbacks are constantly moving around from "5 years ago" to "2 minutes ago" to "12 days ago" to "4 months ago," as if the timeline is important. Good luck remembering the chronology.

Thanks SS. I thought someone might have started a thread about it but I couldn't see it.

Not much of a thread really... just a bunch of (sorta) jokes. Doesn't seem like The Event caught on here in the Zone.

That's a double edged sword. It either means that we've seen enough good TV to recognise bad shows when made, or that we've watched so many TV shows that the ideas are no longer new
