Yeah it's kinda crazy to be honest, I'm actually waiting for something to fall through, but if Martin is calling official then, well - yes balls!
I've just reread the first 3 and I'm half way through AFFC (appreciating it a lot more the second time through) so for this announcement to happen now is perfect.

I've never read any of these. I take it from your excitement that I should give them a whirl?

Ironically for a book, words cannot express the levels of awesome this series attains. You will go nuts for them Moo. I'd recommend reading the first one, A Game Of Thrones, before the TV show comes out so you can imagine the world for yourself.

Perfect timing, I'm about to finish my current book and was wondering what to read next. I'm all over it.

Wow. To be honest, I kind of expected Martin to die before this book ever came out.

(I'm not sure what the appropriate emoticon would be in this case, so I've prepared a couple: :D    )

This could go in several different threads, but since this one is the newest I thought I'd post it here.

During a press tour to promote HBO's Game of Thrones and his own upcoming A Dance with Dragons, George R.R. Martin repeatedly slams Lost, thus creating a mighty Internet feud! Sort of. Here's EW with more on the story:

And now it's here! Yipee skippe . . .

Of course I'm only halfway through Swords w/ Crows on deck.

I'm in a theater class having to read 1 play per week. And that's on top of an accounting class, work and raising twin 2 year olds. NO TIME, NO TIME . . .

A Song of Ice and Fire

It's my favorite of the bunch so far, certainly moreso than the last book, which was well-written as always but seemed to tread water most of the time. But it set this book up beautifully, and I'm enjoying the fallout from all the kings' failed attempts on the throne.

Oh dude. Man, just, just... when it happens and then keeps happening and happening, just remember to breathe.

That reminds me, something I was wondering about regarding the middle of book five (I think). Anyone besides me convinced the missing Freys have been served as wedding pie?

Don't know if you want to read this but no I was talking about different Freys, there're enough of them for this statement to be completely vague. Although I can't guarantee one of them isn't named Walder too

I just came across a passage in A Storm of Swords that seems relevant to this discussion:

When the flames were blazing nicely Meera put a fish on. At least it's not a meat pie. The Rat Cook had cooked the son of the Andal king in a big pie with onions, carrots, mushrooms, lots of pepper and salt, a rasher of bacon, and a dark red Dornish wine. Then he served him to his father, who praised the taste and had a second slice. Afterward the gods transformed the cook into a monstrous white rat who could only eat his own young. He had roamed the Nightfort ever since, devouring his children, but still his hunger was not sated. "It was not for murder that the gods cursed him," Old Nan said, "nor for serving the Andal king his son in a pie. A man has a right to vengeance. But he slew a guest beneath his roof, and that the gods cannot forgive."

Come to think of it (and rereading that bit) that was the one thing that finally convinced me something was afoot, someone drunkenly demanding for a song about the Rat Cook.
