Most die-hard fans of the game never liked Jolie as Croft. And the movies were so utterly forgettable that if they actually revived it with a whole new team and gave it alot of Casino Royale hype, I think it would do just fine.

The problem isn't that a general audience identifies Jolie as Croft--I'm not sure a general audience is all that keen to see Lara Croft at all, no matter who plays her.

It was an opportunity wasted really (Daniel Craig was in Tomb Raider, am I right?)

The difference with a model is they don't really need to engage the audience, so long as the look and attitude is right.

Angelina Jolie at least had presence which I'm not sure another actress would have. If you're going to go with an unknown, make it straight to video and go to Uwe Boll's creditors. Or better yet don't and just film his reaction when they say "There is no money left Uwe, I'm afraid Bloodrayne In Space will not be made"

Or that there is even an audience aware of Lara Croft...

Jolie is seen as Croft, but without her, would the audience even care about the character. Im sure there are people out there that dont know it was based on a video game character.

Tomb Raider III?

Postby bastard_robo on Fri Jul 06, 2007 9:13 pm

looks like the movie might not happen with this news:

TV Guide reports that British actress Minnie Driver has been recruited to fill the tank top and short-shorts of the "Tomb Raider" herself Lara Croft - albeit in animated form.

Driver will provide the voice for the lithe archaeologist/adventurer in the 10-part animated series "Re\Visioned: Tomb Raider" for GameTap which begins airing the episodes online starting Tuesday.

In the series, "world-famous writers and artists are each doing their own version of Lara Croft, telling a different story the way they see the character" says GameTap content VP Ricardo Sanchez.

The first three-part adventure was written and directed by "Aeon Flux" creator Peter Chung. Subsequent episodes are being handled by the likes of Warren Ellis, Gail Simone, Jim Lee and Christos Gage.

I saw that and I am psyched! Not only is she back in her original outfit, but she has red hair too. Yeah!

Which means I'm going to be the perfect Croft in San Diego. Too fun!

Yup, I played the games and just didn't envision the actress to play Croft as Jolie. She just came across very bland and unheroic.

I love the games, but the first movie blew. Didn't even bother to watch the second. Jolie was beyond wooden, and the only two good scenes were the acrobatics-while-wearing-pajamas and the sideboob in the shower. Beyond that, meh.

I wouldn't mind someone else taking it on, though. Just make a good movie this time around.

Yes, yes it is. As the ill-fated Terry Sheridan.

So I also owe it my came-up-with-it-at-2am screen name. Which I'm now stuck with forever due to its notoriety. Ah, well.

Nah. Lara's much dirtier and grittier than Aeon Flux. It would be a good fight, though.

Megan Fox

Postby TheButcher on Wed Jan 28, 2009 12:58 am

From io9: The Truth About Megan Fox As The Next Lara Croft
Rumors have circulated all day that Megan Fox would be replacing Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in the next Tomb Raider action flick. We went straight to the top to find the answer.

Sorry dreamers — the lovely Fox isn't planning to don the slinky jumpsuit. A spokesperson for Megan Fox denied the rumors to io9, saying, "She's not involved in the movie at all."

I know this is a huge upset to many of you, because who knows how many more thigh holsters Jolie would be willing to strap on, and we totally agree with the idea of putting Fox into Croft's boots. She's got the prerequisite attitude, lips and hips.

Latino Review first leaked the story from Europa Press in Spain that Megan Fox was indeed the next in line to don the long Croft pony tail.

There's no director attached, and I'm not even sure if a third has been greenlit, but Fox does look the part and her success from the Transformers movies means she could finally have her own big name character that could lead to future sequels. The article says that they're looking to shoot in 2010 with a release date of 2011.

As of right now Fox is not the next Croft, but that doesn't mean we can't start a grass-roots campaign to get her in.

From Latino Review: It's Possible That Megan Fox Will Let You Raid Her Womb. I Mean Tomb.

Tomb Raider Reboot

Postby TheButcher on Wed Jan 28, 2009 3:52 am

From AICN: Warner Bros. Excavating TOMB RAIDER For Reboot!! Has Rhona Mitra’s Time Come At Last??
From THR.com: Lara Croft to return to the big screen - Warners, Dan Lin in early development on reboot
Steven Zeitchik wrote:Lara Croft could soon be going on a new big-screen mission.

Warners Bros. and producer Dan Lin are in early development on a a reboot of "Tomb Raider," the popular video game action franchise.

"Tomb Raider," which was published in 1996 by a London-based video game company called Eidos, was a wildly popular game that involved the daredevil archaeologist Lara Croft on a series of global missions. Several spinoff games have been published since, with a 10th-anniversary edition of the game released in 2006.

Paramount previously made the two movies based on the game, but the rights have since reverted to Eidos. When Time Warner upped its stake to 19.92% in Eidos in December, films rights to the property were included as part of the deal.

Lin will produce the project via his Lin Pictures banner while Stephen Gilchrist will co-produce; Ian Livingstone of Eidos will exec produce. Matt Reilly is overseeing for Warners. Lin is the producer behind Warners' upcoming Guy Ritchie-directed update of "Sherlock Holmes" and the adventure film "Jonny Quest."

The new project, however, is expected to revamp the character and her mission and bear little resemblance to the original pictures. It will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain.

As an open-writing assignment, the project is still in its nascent stages. An actress who could play the role Angelina Jolie made famous would likely come on after a writer and director are attached.

Jolie, of course, starred in the first two installments, "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life."

The first pic, which came out in 2001, grossed a whopping $275 million worldwide, while the 2003 follow-up earned a more modest $157 million.

The first pic concerned Croft's race against a secret society known as the Illuminati to find a key, while the second centered on her quest to find "Pandora's Box."

Rhona Mitra was kind of a bore in Doomsday. I'd rather see Megan Fox, especially if she put on a really horrendous fake English accent.

GK Films Reboots 'Tomb Raider'
In a pre-emptive strike, GK Films has come on board to acquire the feature film rights to TOMB RAIDER and will reboot the successful action-adventure franchise aiming for a 2013 release for the first film.

Produced by Graham King and Tim Headington, the films will create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft.

GK Films acquired the film rights from interactive entertainment company, Square Enix Ltd. In Dec 2010, Square Enix subsidiary, Crystal Dynamics, revealed a new game for TOMB RAIDER based around the origins of the Lara Croft story.

“We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the TOMB RAIDER phenomenon,” said King.

The original game was published in 1996 by the London based video game company Eidos and became one of the most successful video games of the time. Today Eidos (including Crystal Dynamics), is part of an international interactive entertainment group, Square Enix and the stage is set for this new chapter in TOMB RAIDER history.

A pop culture phenomenon, the original TOMB RAIDER games have sold over 35million game units worldwide and Lara Croft, along with Mario Brothers is the most recognized name in gaming history.

Starring Angelina Jolie, Paramount Pictures made two movies based on the daredevil archaeologist on a series of global missions in 2001 and 2003. They grossed a total of $432m at the worldwide box office.

From what I've seen of the TR reboot so far, it looks pretty interesting. I guess they're starting over with LC as a younger girl. I'll miss the classic Lara, but this doesn't look too bad. Check out the rest of the concept art and screenshots at tombraider.com. Good stuff.

Jolie has the right face all those years ago but her physique just went far too skinny after the movies.

I like the idea of this younger girl. Not sure I like the crap all over her face though.
