The Movie Trailers 'Я' Us Thread

All the dirt. All the top secret stuff. Anything that has to do with the process of getting us to sit and watch something projected on the big screen.

Well, judging from that picture, you have been had.

Not sure what to think of the trailer though. Or the movie for that matter.

wow, not really the same kind of movies at all. one was a fluff diversion, a teenage pipedream of a flick with as much substance as puffed rice, while this is looks to be a real biting dark comedy that has something REAL to say

Well then we will disagree! I wasn't comparing the tone of Kick Ass to this flick, just the Chloe Moertz wanna be actress who has no remorse for killing lots and lots of "bad guys".
Regardless, this doesn't look like a dark comedy to me at all. It looks like a poorly put together movie trying to endear itself to that little part of our brains that thinks about putting a bullet thru head of all the idiots we see on a daily basis. And if you'd like me to read into it a little further, its a pretty cheap cop out to have the anti-hero of this film have a terminal illness, thus giving him the "so what if I kill people all day long, I'm going to die anyway" out, morally speacking.

Different strokes...

written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, he is certainly saying something with this movie, there was always a dark angry side to his stand up routine and I have seen and heard a few interviews with him that really reveal how much is going on in that head of his and how he looks at film as more than just entertainment. placing the protagonist with is back against the wall of mortality isn't a cop out to me, more of a real confrontation of life and death and how that might shift the perspective of someone who looks around and sees the madness our society has adopted as part of every day life.

I got more of a FALLING DOWN vibe from it.

In fact, I would probably describe that trailer as FALLING DOWN if you gave Michael Douglas a sidekick.

Here's the trailer for RUST & BONE, the mashup of FIGHT CLUB and FREE WILLY that audiences have been clamouring for. Jacques Audiard is a filmmaker I really like. He started strong and has gotten stronger each film. I regard his last film, A PROPHET, as a perfect film and a modern masterpiece. I look forward to this. Nipples.

Here is the trailer for COSMOPOLIS, the new film from David Cronenberg.

I've never seen Pattinson in a movie and so I don't have an opinion on him, he seems like he's going for a young Christian Bale thing here. Maybe not hitting the mark, but not really missing it too embarassingly.

The funny thing is that this trailer has the bold tagline of proclaiming itself the first film about our new millenium while also looking like it belongs in that wave of pre-millenium 90s sci-fi films like STRANGE DAYS.

They're not all big winners, but Cronenberg has never made a movie I've regretted watching and so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that this movie isn't just another one of those sci-fi flicks with ten minutes of interesting ideas at the beginning and then it quickly switches gears into endless chase scenes as one dude outruns some corrupt fascist state. But really, my interest in seeing this mostly to see Juliette Binoche all trashy.

This is 40 - the sort of sequel to Knocked Up. I hated Leslie Mann's character in Knocked Up, but this looks funny.

And I'm posting the AICN article over the YouTube link because the Talkbacks are so fucking venomous - as always, but still an amazing sight to see.

I liked it, looks fairly solid, though I think Affleck should probably leave the acting to someone else, it isn't as if he has the screen presence of an Eastwood or Gibson to spread himself out with too much to handle and I think he does better work behind the camera than in front of it

Yeah, looks like two movies crammed together and shot to look like ZODIAC.

Argo and Killer Joe are on my non-existent list of movies I definitely want to see. Lawless is on my non-existent list of movies that I'll watch if I don't have to go terribly out of my way to see (blame Shia).

Look at all you busy little bees posting up a storm of trailers. Good job guys! Those 3 movies look okay but none are anything I would make a big effort to see.

I'd say KILLER JOE appeals to me the most. It looks like it has the most potential for entertaining character interactions and fun twists etc. Like back when the Coen brothers made movies I liked.

I get the feeling LAWLESS will be another PUBLIC ENEMIES, a good enough period gangster movie that does its job and is entertaining to watch once but lacking the level of thematic depth, style, or attention to character that would set it apart from the pack.

I agree with you guys that ARGO looks pretty scattered and I don't really think Affleck is the actor to hold all those conflicting tones together. I guess I think of Affleck as a funny guy who can be serious, and I think a movie like this requires a serious guy who can be funny if you get what I mean. But it's probably still an interesting enough movie.

I actually do NOT see the trailer for Argo being all over the place, there are a couple moments that are a little lighter in tone in the beginning of the trailer, and I happen to think they are there to show the surreality of what the situation might have felt like to those involved at the time, but you can find such moments in a lot of otherwise "serious" movies that are not accused of being scattered at all. the vast majority of the trailer has a very serious tone imo. i still see Affleck as better served focusing his energies behind the lens, though, I think he is a much more talented director than actor, no question about it.

I also think people need to be able to separate the Shia they see in the Transformers movies from the one who has shown some decent acting chops in other movies, like "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints". you don't make Turturro out to be a shit actor because of Transformers, do you

I think that's what we can reasonably expect from the movie, the trailer itself is 60% dead series from0 to 0:44 and from 1:36 till the end with a big chunk of light almost satire-like ion the middle. Those segments could easily be from two different movies, very much emphasized by the music

this looks solid at the start, if not original, but one thing that puts me off is the fact that along with a cast of established top notch actors they have Emma "I act the same way in everything I'm in" Stone cast in the one major female role. what the fuck? first off, I am sick of her already, was sick of her 5 minutes into her irritating role in the shitfest that was "Zombieland", one of the most over-rated and over-used actresses going right now. plus she is about half the age of the most of the actors, even Gosling is probably at least 10 years older, what the hell is the director thinking casting a lightweight teenybopper actress among that cast of quality adult actors(so what if she isn't a teenager anymore, she is still playing them). that kind of choice makes me doubt what the quality of the movie is really going to be, makes me question the director's decision making process and takes my anticipation level down a few notches to a " wait to rent"

She received a Golden Globe nomination for her work in Easy A, as well as a ton of praise for her work in The Help. Obviously some people think more of her skills than you.

I am aware of that, but then I never have based my tastes on what others think :D

While that looked kinda slick, IMO it was totally unoriginal in almost every way (the comparisons to The Untouchables alone could keep us going for a week). Not that there's anything wrong with that. But nothing about this excited me one bit (except for the red head  ). And I actually turned it off towards the end when the Kayne rap song started. I fucking hate mashing in current/cool/hip music with what was intended to be a period piece/drama. I call bullshit with the studios for trying to get the hip crowd on board with this flick by adding out of place music.

And as far as Emma Stone is concerned, there will be and always was an "It Girl" in Hollywood that all the studios fawn over. It happens to be her now, so get used to it (for a little while before some other youngin comes along and steals her spotlight). At least she's real purty to gander at...

Yup, I'll take GANGSTER SQUAD as my period piece gangster movie over that LAWLESS one posted further up on the page. Looks like it has more of a sense of style and fun, but it could just be a better cut trailer. I probably could've done without them spoiling that big moment in the cinema, that would've been nicer as a surprise.

Brolin and Nolte look a lot like father and son.

Edit: I have only seen Emma Stone in EASY A and somebody pointed out that she was one of the conquests in SUPERBAD, so I've seen her in two movies.
