Agreed on all counts. There is a lot of thought behind this show and it shows with each episode.
It's cool seeing Vader being a little more agile than his OT self will be.

I just have to randomly say.....this show is still extremely entertaining. The humor is decent - not catering to the lowest 5 year-old, yet not completely above kids' heads. Clone Wars seemed to have the occasional bout of George Lucas's prequel humor, and that hurt it. Rebels doesn't have that (kind of like The Force Awakens).
But the stories themselves are pretty cool. I'm having a lot of fun watching this.

So I've never watched a second of this series or the others in this SW family, but I happen to have just read the thread on the mothersite about last nights Season 2 finale, and the TBers were GUSHING over how awesome it was. I may have to watch it now....

I haven't read the talkbacks but I watched the show.....

It is really good Star Wars. The show itself is pretty consistent, but that episode was amazing.

They pretty much threw everything in to the finale and it was quite good.

I would say that to fully appreciate it, you probably have to have watched most of The Clone Wars series. If you've only watched Rebels, you aren't going to know much about Ashoka or Maul's extended backstory.

I do like how the tone of this series is all over the place, that's in a good way. From comic and light to very serious and going into some brave dark territories, especially at the end of S2. You never know what you're gonna get with each episode, such as what I thought was gonna be a boring typically trivial episode with Chopper mucking about in the beginning, turned out to be possibly my favourite of S2 - 'The Forgotten Droid', which ended up being endearing and rather moving in the end.

No new sabre wielding bad guys for the new season then it seems from this. But let's see what the fuss over General Thrawn is all about. Hope he brings the Bad.

I just don't get the Thrawn obsession with some.

I read the Thrawn series probably in 2001, between Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. I found it mildly entertaining but incredibly hokey - even in Star Wars terms. What, with Jedi clones and the like. I totally understand that in the eighties and early nineties there was a void of anything new in the Star Wars world. That doesn't mean that everything that was produced was golden. I guess that mentality is a huge reason I was happy that Disney did away with the EU. Now every story and everything within that story has to pass through their Story Team to make sure it all fits..... and for lack of better wording, isn't fucking stupid.

All that being said, I'm more than happy with future Star Wars properties dipping into the EU well for characters/stories/etc. as it will now become part of the cohesive story that is Star Wars.

I read the Thrawn stuff back in the 90s. I think the attraction (for me at least) was the character was like an extension of Grand Moff Tarkin, who we never really get fleshed out since he doesn't make it past the first movie. So Thrawn is like a dialed up Tarkin...cold, calculating, etc.

Dickwank fans of the old EU will love this, as it actually makes Thrawn part of the official canon for the first time.
