JOKER

Not sure what to think. Seems like this can be a straight up drama (horror?), not a DC Comics flick. Not really much to take from the teaser other than Joaquin being Joaquin (that's to say, cra-cra).

I'm fascinated by this project. I can't tell if it's a bold creative risk or a misguided trainwreck, but I'm fascinated, nonetheless.

I have no idea what they're doing over at Warner/DC, but I'm all in on this. They need to stop chasing Marvel and just do something nuts.

Honestly, this LOOKS really good.

i can't decide if this is a reboot of The King of Comedy, or a reboot of The Day the Clown Cried.

either way, Jerry Lewis would be proud.

it also looks more like a Paul Thomas Anderson film than something made by the guy who directed Old School and the Hangover series.

Yeah, it's clearly imitating the look of Scorsese's New York period. I'm kind of okay with it being somewhat unoriginal as long as it pushes the genre in new directions.

they really missed an opportunity by not posting that trailer on April 1.

"from the director of Road Trip and Starsky & Hutch... and the star of I'm Still Here... comes a new era in superhero cinema.... THE JOKER"

people would be debating whether this trailer/film was just one big elaborate practical joke for HOURS...

Trailer dropped.

This looks fairly psychotic, which seems to be exactly what it should be. I'm not sure an actor could be more perfect for a role then what I'm seeing here.

I never saw The King of Comedy, but in the article I found this trailer in there was a ton of "King of Comedy 2" comments.

This does have echoes of King of Comedy, the '70s polyester aesthetic for one thing. The presence of Bobby D, however -- the original Rupert Pupkin -- cements the homage.

Good news for anyone looking forward to this: apparently the Joker movie got a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival:

So that Joker movie made like $100 million this weekend. I guess there are a lot more incels out there than I'd thought.

Pre theater release this thing was getting rave reviews, post theater release and I swear I'm seeing mostly negative reviews. Nobody seems to know what this movie was about or what it was trying to say.

I want to see this before I make a big to do over it, but I do get a real white, angry populist vibe to it and I reject the premise of someone going through being treated poorly as justification for turning into a homicidal cult leader. there are many many millions millions of Black Americans who lived in this country over the last few hundred years, for example, who have never been given that "understanding". Nat Turner is still considered more of a mass murderer than a freedom fighter the way history is taught in school and the movie about him was considered controversial for portraying him as a hero. think about THAT. the TRUE fucking story of Nat Turner was considered controversial because it portrayed someone who had endured the cruelty of slavery in the early 19th century as justified in turning on his oppressors with violence and brutality, while THIS movie about a disenfranchised white male who deals with hardship by turning into a monster is being hailed as a masterpiece by white reviewers all over. hhhmmmm……...
