From Latino Review @ SDCC 2010: Exclusive Guillermo del Toro Gives Clarification On Haunted Mansion
Only producing and co-writing with Matthew Robbins for now. I would love to direct it if the timing allows it but I already have the next directing project ready to be announced in a week or so. Big and unexpected and full of invention. Haunted Mansion is, however, so perfect- because into it I can finally pour decades- most of my life- of admiration and veneration for Rolly Crump, Marc Davis and Claude Coats and the incredibly stylized and impossibly cool world they created. The movie I am imagining and that I dream of bringing forth is a full-on shrine to the feel we had as kids going into these E-ticket rides. For some people Haunted Mansion is just a ride for others, like me, who got caught in it at the precise age, it is almost a way of life.

Re: Guillermo Del Toro's Haunted Mansion
Today's news that GDT will be doing a Haunted Mansion movie for Disney (and in effect Double Dare You, his flagship production company with them) has me all a-flutter. I've been a Mansion geek for years (after getting over my childhood fears of it, that is), and that Eddie Murphy abomination was an insult. Pretty production design and a fairly cool Rick Baker sequence that had little to do with the Mansion itself does not a film make. I'm stoked for this.

Re: Guillermo Del Toro's Haunted Mansion
Good links and info guys, thanks. I'm beyond happy to hear about this. I've also heard the Hatbox Ghost is going to be the main character. Can't wait to see some concept art. Just found a link to a teaser image or two...

Re: Guillermo Del Toro's Haunted Mansion
How is it possible for Guillermo Del Toro to have so many more hours in his days than I have in mine?

Re: Guillermo Del Toro's Haunted Mansion
I'm hoping that if this movie is successful, the HBG will be put back into the Mansion. It's been rumored about for a while now, but this could be the factor that finally makes it happen. There's been a rather suspicious-looking hat rack in the exact place where the HBG used to stand in the Attic for years.

If James Fucking Cameron and his Mountains Of Madness delays my Haunted Mansion movie, I will beat him to death with his own shoes.

Re: Guillermo Del Toro's Haunted Mansion
I always wondered about that dang ghost since I never see him inside the mansion but I see him in artwork. I am so happy to know. You know what I want in a Haunted Mansion movie, sounds from the ride. And not too subtle that you miss it and the cool feeling it would give you.

Guillermo del Toro Says Disney Double Dare You ‘Is Gone’
Guillermo del Toro wrote:Some of those big deals I’d made, with Disney and Universal, I had to dance really fast to be able to get a period of grace to shoot those Hobbit movies, and then be able to make those deals active again. That period came and went, and we were not shooting. That Disney Double Dare You deal is gone. I am developing a relationship with DreamWorks that’s still to be defined, but it’s not as it was going to be at Disney. Disney was a beautiful opportunity, but with the timing and the delays and everything, I couldn’t activate it.

Del Toro & Favreau's Shared Disney Universe?
Jim Vejvoda wrote: Disney-owned Marvel is already doing it with their films featuring the Avengers lineup, but could we see different movies based on Disney theme park attractions similarly inhabiting a shared cinematic universe? Quite possibly if directors Guillermo del Toro and Jon Favreau have their way.
In a chat with MTV, del Toro outlined a discussion he had with Favreau about his screen adaptation of The Haunted Mansion overlapping to some degree with the latter's Magic Kingdom.

Guillermo del Toro Gives Updates on JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK and HAUNTED MANSION; Confirms He Won’t Direct HAUNTED MANSION
Adam Chitwood wrote:Del Toro has been developing an adaptation of the comic series Justice League Dark for a little while now, and he told Steve that he’s currently doing revisions on the screenplay:
The director also provided an updated on his adaptation of the Disney ride Haunted Mansion, which was first announced nearly three years ago. Del Toro confirmed that he will only be producing the film due to his busy schedule:“Justice League Dark is very active. I’m doing one more revision while we wait for the writer. It’s somebody big, [and] we’re patiently waiting for that writer. I think it’s worth it, I think it’s a guy we all admire. I’m doing my revisions on my sort of Bible, on my story for the film. I can tell you it’s the writing project I’ve enjoyed the most in English. Devil’s Backbone and Pan’s Labyrinth are in Spanish, but of all my writing and screenplays, this was so much fun because it was character. It was a pretty easy plot, but the character interaction, Swamp Thing with Deadman and Demon, it’s so joyful for me to write that. Constantine is such a great character, so dry. I think it could be a great movie. I don’t want to do many changes until the proper writer comes onboard.”
“Haunted Mansion we chased the writer for a year and a half, we didn’t get the writer, we’re going after another writer. That one I would produce and I co-wrote, but I won’t direct… I’m a huge fan of Haunted Mansion and I would love to do it, but Disney at the same time wants to move really fast on it, and I’m busy for a year and a half or two so they don’t want to wait that long. But if we keep chasing writers that we don’t get, it’s getting to be difficult.”

Does this look good? I can't tell. It kind of feels like the ride, at least.
